SMU Dedman School of Law
  • When are applications accepted?
    • We begin accepting applications in September.  The regular decision deadline is February 15th, but late applications will be considered on a space-available basis.
  • What are the differences in the day and evening programs?
    • The day program is a three-year, full-time J.D. program.  The evening program is a four-year, part-time J.D. program.  The evening program is designed for people with full-time careers or other responsibilities seeking a J.D. degree with the same intellectual rigor as full-time studies.  The course requirements are the same for both programs and the courses are taught by the same distinguished faculty.
  • Can I apply to both the day and evening programs at the same time?  Do I have to pay two application fees?
    • You may apply for both programs with the same application.  Simply check the boxes for both the full-time J.D. (day program) and the part-time J.D. (evening program).  Please note, however, that a candidate will only be extended an offer of admission to one program.  If you have a preference of programs, please note that on your application.  Only one application fee ($75) is required.
  • What are the median LSAT scores and undergraduate GPAs for the day and evening programs?
    • The full-time day class that enrolled in the fall of 2011 has a median LSAT score of 165 and a median undergraduate GPA of 3.72.  The part-time evening class that enrolled in the fall of 2011 has a median LSAT score of 160 and a median undergraduate GPA of 3.57.
  • Does SMU offer spring enrollment?
    • Entering J.D. students may only enroll in August.  Transfer and visiting students are considered each semester.
  • Does SMU average multiple LSAT scores?
    • No.  We use an applicant’s highest reported LSAT score for admissions and scholarship awarding purposes.
  • Where can I find out more information about median LSAT scores and GPAs, bar passage, career services statistics. etc?
