If you haven’t seen this, go now. The PSA parody for number 8 alone is worth it.

Quote of the day

November 27, 2007 8 comments

From here:

Note that I’m also not asking why God need not exist–ie the “the universe works fine on its own” argument. I concede there is no need for God to exist; I want to know why God does not exist.

I think you might need to rethink your question there, skippy.

In other news, my invisible pink unicorn has gone missing.

Persecuting the religious

November 27, 2007 Leave a comment

Oh, the horror. WND has this headline at the top of main page:

County investigates sheriff for supporting Christmas

Completely outrageous! What you believe is your own business and the government can’t tell you what you talk about!

However, he did say the repercussions for his support for Christmas already are developing. He said county commissioners were reviewing his comments in his column, a statement confirmed by Commissioner Glenn Gibson.

“The sheriff’s not accountable to the commissioners. He’s accountable to the public,” Gibson told WND. But the commentary on the sheriff’s department part of the county website causes concern, he said.

“I have questioned whether that is the correct, proper place to air one’s opinion,” he told WND. “That is what is being looked into. That probably will be addressed in the future.”

Gibson said Alderden was free to have his own website, something Alderden told WND he already was exploring.

“It’s just that my concern that being on the county website, that also shows county approval. That’s what we’re going to have to address,” Gibson said.

Oh. So, someone is looking into whether he should be using that county’s website for his rants about religion and culture? Sounds like a reasonable thing to do, actually. That commissioner sounds calm and reasonable, too.

WND: journalism at its finest.

Break time

November 21, 2007 Leave a comment

It’s Thanksgiving time, so I’ll be gone through this weekend. That is, assuming I don’t slide down Teton pass and into a tree. If that happens, I won’t be back at all. Because I’ll be dead. Which would be annoying.

Happy Thanksgiving.

(note: I won’t, however, forget to remove the eyesore gracing the top of this page on Saturday.)

I’ve upgraded and now everything is broken. All will be fixed soon. Hopefully.

UPDATE: If you have any idea why my sidebar is now below the post when you view a single post, let me know. I don’t really see how upgrading WP causes that to happen.

Elect Ron Paul

November 19, 2007 2 comments

Another plank of the Ron Paul platform: stop the war on Christmas (yes, I know this isn’t new).

Maybe he’ll put Bill O’Reilly in charge of creating guidelines for proper Christian holiday celebrations. I mean Christmas celebrations! Damn it! I must subconsciously want to destroy Christmas.

Heh

November 15, 2007 9 comments

It seems to be the cool thing on conservative Montana blogs to label liberal bloggers with some kind of epithet containing the word “pussy.” I thought I’d been spared such a label and honestly, I was a little disappointed. No more, though. I seem to be one of the “tres amigos of the Montana Mewling Pussy Brigade,” according to one of our more hysterical Montana bloggers. I feel like part of the club now.

That post and its comments are a good read, though. Mike is reduced to nonsensical questions to counter Jay’s point about suicide terrorism not being due to a particular religion. We also learn that the war on terrorism is just like WW2. It’s pretty amusing.

Family sues…Jesus?

November 13, 2007 1 comment

That’s my conclusion from this, anyway:

LONDON — As a woman bitten by a rattlesnake during a church service in London struggled to breathe, hospital employees made derogatory comments about her religious beliefs rather than providing proper care, contributing to her death, a lawsuit charges.

If snake-handling is a test of faith, shouldn’t they just accept that that woman failed the test? Who exactly are they suing here?

The complaint also says the unprofessional comments about Long’s religious beliefs were discriminatory and caused her and her family emotional pain and humiliation.

I don’t know if this is true or not, obviously, but I’d certainly be humiliated if someone I loved died because they thought his or her imaginary friend would protect against poisonous snakes, regardless of comments made.

I can think of a few overall reactions:

A. She didn’t hurt anyone else and it’s one less delusional idiot in the world, so who cares? If anything, she should get a Darwin Award.
B. Thinking snake-handling is a test of faith is simply ignorance. We should be saddened that her ignorance led to her death.
C. You’re mocking a family which has just suffered a tragedy. Knock it off, you ass.

Feel free to pick one or make up your own.

You keep using that word…

November 12, 2007 1 comment

We’re now supposed to change our definition of privacy. Nice. No longer does it mean, you know, things being kept private, but that the government gets whatever it wants and promises not to do bad things with it.

I suppose if you haven’t done anything wrong, you have nothing to hide. Until they decide you are doing something wrong, that is.
