The first rock musical Hair debuted off Broadway in New York. In 1968 it went on Broadway with one of the longest runs in history. Counter Culture, anti-war, drugs and long hair made it controversial enough to become a success. It spun a few hit songs, Hair, Age of Aquarius and Good Morning Starshine.

Rolling Stone Magazine was founded in San Francisco in 1967 by Jann Wenner and music critic Ralph J. Gleason.
A big year for The Beatles. On the first global satellite television link, 350 million people watched the Beatles live on tv. John Lennon was asked to write an appropriate song for the show, and All You Need is Love became a top hit instantly. After they finished Sgt Pepper and signed a 9 year contract with EMI records, their manager Brian Epstein died. They also signed a petition in Times to legalize marijuana and had the song from Magical Mystery Tour, The Walrus banned by the BBC.
Bad boys, The Rolling Stones release Let's Spend the Night Together and are set to perform it on the Ed Sullivan Show. Sullivan tells them to either change the lyrics to "Lets spend some time together" or not perform at all. Mick Jagger succumbs to the censorship and rolls his eyes at the camera every time he repeats the refrain.
Later in the year Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are busted for drugs and end up doing a month in jail.
On this side of the Atlantic Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys is indicted for draft evasion.
We first take notice of the Turtles, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Jethro Tull and Cream.

Marty Balin and Paul Kantner put the Psychedelic in Psychedelic
Rock & Roll 1967
In the who's on first department the year had Jimi Hendrix singing Purple Haze and burning his guitar on stage as the opening act for The Monkees, while The Who blew up the stage as the opening act for Herman's Hermits.
Though My Generation was written and recorded in 1965 in London, it was not until 1967 that The Who finally impressed America. In this clip bad boy prankster Keith Moon adds three times the bang to the pyhro without telling anyone causing Pete Townsend to lose most of the hearing in his right ear.
