Fiction 1952
 The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway - Written in Cuba it was the last major work produced by Hemingway. The story of of a luckless old fisherman who quietly wins a great battle with a great Marlin in the Gulf Stream, returning with only the satisfaction of the memory. Hemingway won the 1953 Nobel Prize in Literature mainly for this small simple novel. Old Man in the Sea.
East of Eden by John Steinbeck - The author calls this big novel of a troubled family in turn of the 20th Century Salinas, California his Magnum Opus saying it "everything in it I have been able to learn". The title embodies the Biblical theme of good and evil. East of Eden.
 Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison - This classic novel was the only published work in the author's lifetime. The nameless narrator is an invisible stereotype (a black man) who at first battles society but comes to accept his inconspicuous existence as an advantage. The book touting religious faith as the key to self improvement became not only the layout for the Self Help genre and motivational speakers, but also the Bible of many pyramid sales teams like Tupperware for example.  The Devils of Loudun by Aldous Huxley – Called a non-fiction novel, this book chronicles the demonic possession, religious fanaticism, sexual repression, and mass hysteria in 17th century France.
