They turned on the municipal fountains last week.
* I'm totally loving SJ-R photographer Rich Saal's new photo project (Springfield Photographs) of "images taken between 1929 and 1935 for the Illinois State Journal." Amazing.
* My daughter is on the trail of the Lincolnshire Poacher. Good work, , again, Allie.
* I thought it was William Hurt.
* Happy (no link).

Themeless
They honked at me until I tossed them some bread.
* I thought this was an especially succinct response to the current financial situation in Illinois:
We have a half century(+) of GA [General Assembly] financial misbehavior. And we are trying to “fix” the system at a time when we are worse than broke. It will be difficult and hard choices have to be made - by the GA members who’ve kicked the can down the road for generations.
* Former state prison in Joliet could house NATO offenders. Illinois Nazis?
* I see ticks.
* Nice purchase.

Remember the Maine
Springfield has a very large and prominent monument to the USS Maine, but I never see any tourists there. I wonder why.
* I can't make you love me by the Commodores... the U.S. Navy Commodores, that is.

Friday five
One of those came to visit me this week. I'm always surprised when small children like me.
1. What does it mean when you can't burp? I've had three or four of these episodes in the last couple months. Whereas, in the 55 years before, I may have had one. I hope I'm not entering a new era of illness.
2. If someone can go for six years helping herself to $30 million in tax dollars without being noticed, what was the little town's budget to begin with? Feds: Dixon bookkeeper spent stolen millions on horses.
3. George Little knows how to spot 'em: Gump wasn't as dumb as these guys.
4. Gold teeth.

Washington Park.
* Truck towing herbicide tank tips over, spills into Prairie Creek. Damn.
* Two Indiana turkey hunters shot on season’s opening day. Stupid.
* Starved Rock State Park. Beautiful.
