I write books and scripts and things, and do Web technology and media stuff.
In my journalism days I wrote about everything from fugitive dot-com millionaires to North Korean kidnapping hijinks to tragic Commodore 64 computer game geniuses. I did articles for the New York Observer, Salon.com, the London Guardian, Radar, and a bunch of magazines, showing up on the BBC, NPR and other places and descending into the weird world of political journalism before lighting out for more fruitful and creative avenues.
During the blog revolution of the mid-’00s, when we thought corruption and tyranny could be stopped by the combined power of Blogspot home pages about Valerie Plame and the Eminem video for “Mosh,” I was featured on Voice of America as one of the new kids using their Web Logs to reveal Washington hijinks. In one of the first viral video scandals ever, I made front-page headlines after exposing a scandalous dinner party on Capitol Hill where a Republican donor dressed up like King George III and a Democratic member of Congress brought him a shining crown. On a pillow. The New York Times devoted an editorial to the fallout from my scoop: “Lawmakers Scurry From The Light.”
The whole thing was pretty amazing.
Then I wrote a book and short film. Here’s a clip of me discussing the story with The Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead.
As longtime computer nerd dating back to the Zork/C-64 era, I also develop Web publishing systems, and design satirical interactive features, one of which has been written up by the Village Voice music critic. A site featuring my grandfather’s World War II letters was featured in an HBO campaign for The Pacific. I’ve also done work for ad firms, wineries and Google, and am available for consulting on your Web publishing and coding needs.
Thanks for dropping by. I’ll be adding more stuff soon.
