An audience of prison inmates tearfully applauded 'This Wide Night,' opening May 18 at Seattle's Bathhouse Theatre. A unique local nonprofit, The If Project, helping to change the lives of women offenders and at-risk youth, co-sponsored a special preview behind prison walls.

The Seattle Times reports, "Island County Prosecutor Greg Banks today said he considers the Washington State Patrol’s investigation into Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon to be incomplete until the executive is interviewed or says he doesn’t want to be."

Can drinking coffee ward off skin cancer?

Pacific Standard reports, "a new study finds that highly caffeinated mice who get plenty of exercise seem to be at less risk of developing skin cancer from too much sun exposure."

The North Pacific's rapidly growing plastic garbage patch

A new research paper states that the mass of plastic waste has grown 100-fold in 40 years. The Vancouver Sun reports, "The plastic particles are being vacuumed up by marine life and birds, and the mix is heavy with toxic chemicals."

Catholics ask college to apologize for Dan Savage

The Catholic League is demanding an apology from Elmhurst College in Illinois, where Savage gave a speech in April saying that homosexuals are beaten and bullied because of religion.
