We're looking forward to a great Democracy Weekend in the Chippewa Valley.  Saturday we will be holding FightingBobFest North in Chippewa Falls, a day of progrssive speeches, breakout sessions, music, food, and local beer. There've been some last-minute additions to the schedule of speakers including Mahlon Mitchell and Doug La Follette.  You can see the full schedule at the FIghtingBobFest North web site.

Sunday is Netroots Wisconsin, also in Chippewa Falls. We've had a few revisions to the schedule for Netroots Wisconsin as well.   It's a great opportunity to participate in strategy sessions for sand mining, to talk over technology for progresse Internet use, to learn about environment issues and money and politics issues, and to see two great films - Koch Brothers Exposed and an exclusive up-north showing of We Are WIsconsin - The Film. We're no longer selling tickets with food for the conference, but you can get the $10 special discounted ticket, and if you want food there's a full restaurant and bar in the conference center.  New additions to Netroots Wisconsin include Mike McCabe of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, and Tom Stolp from Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters.  It'll be an informative and entertaining day to take off from canvassing and recall madness.

As I'm sure you're aware, this morning the Walker administration introduced a new set of job numbers that have miraculously found new jobs around the state. We'll ignore the various different interpretations that have been made of this -- cherry-picking statistics to find ones that are favorable, comparing apples to oranges (really, how do they manage to keep finding new measures for jobs and the budget all the time, all of which are favorable, while ignoring the measures they used previously?) and counting jobs from people who are now working in other states.

We've figured it out here.  They're just doing the job count in Base 8.  As a computer professional, this all makes sense to me, and for those of you who are old enough to remember the "new math" Tom Lehrer explains it all. Just substitute in "It's so simple than only a Republican can do it!" in the refrain.

Scott Walker, desperately trying to get rid of the albatross that says "250,000 jobs promised," will announce Wednesday morning that he has recalculated and discovered more than 50,000 new jobs that were created in Wisconsin but somehow overlooked in previous counts.

No, really.

In other news, Tom Barrett's campaign announced that it has recalculated the votes cast in November 2010, and discovered that Barrett actually beat Walker in the governor's race by 72,000 votes.
