This summer, George Bush will save us with a new book outlining his "strategies for economic growth," even if he did sorta misunderestimate some of that complicated money stuff so the country saw unprecedented losses in household income, investment, jobs, gross national product and a few other disasters we're still struggling mightily to get out from under, but still. Just $24.95.

From a longtime New York State judge suffering from pancreatic cancer, a plea for the palliative legal use of medical marijuana as "a fundamental human and medical right." New York is now considering the issue.

Why We Need To Replace Much of Congress Dept: Rep. Joe Pitts, a Pennsylvania Republican who has served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, wrote a constituent a letter suggesting that peace in the Middle East depends on restarting negotiations between Yasir Arafat (who died in 2004) and Ariel Sharon (who has been in a coma since 2006) - or, as one observer noted, "between a vegetable and a dead man." A spokesman explained responding to so many letters a year is "a complicated process."

"With the global war against terrorism, it is now incumbent on Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Chairman Yasir Arafat to clamp down on Palestinian extremists (and) to restart a peace process that has collapsed."

Astounding numbers from an NYCLU analysis of NYPD data on a stop-and-frisk program already dubbed "the most massive local racial profiling program in the country." Police stopped 685,724 people, a 600% increase since Bloomberg took office; nine of 10 were let go; almost 90% were black or Latino, with the number of young black men stopped more than the city's total population of young black men. They were also frisked more, but had fewer weapons than whites. Lawsuit and march coming.

So up comes the case of Paige Sultzbach, 15, who plays second base for Mesa Prep and is a female person among male teammates. They "won" a state baseball tournament after the conservative Our Lady of Sorrows forfeited the championship game rather than face a girl in the name of respecting "proper boundaries." A blast at the "theological dust" thrown up by those who would use "faith as an excuse (to) treat other members of the human race as inferior." And a bit of advice: "Find another excuse. The Gospels are not your alibi."

Kudos to nine-year-old Josef Miles of Kansas, who saw the sick creeps of Westboro Baptist Church picketing, asked his mom for a piece of paper, and mounted his own soulful protest. He wrote: "God Hates No One."
