- salsa.wiredforchange.comWatch the horrific video of Fmr. Lt. Dan Choi, who along with Russian and international human rights activists, was just beaten up by neo-nazis and the Russian police for the "crime" of marching peacefully in Moscow's LGBT Pride parade. Then sign Dan's open letter to Hillary Clinton (below).

Whirlpool, Embraer, Alcoa, and United HealthCare: The Tennessee Chamber of Commerce, of which you ar...e board members, actively lobbied for a bill just passed in the state's legislature repealing current, and banning future, municipal civil rights laws in the state. As the Human Rights Campaign just noted, this bill, written by the religious right, was a thinly veiled effort to repeal civil rights protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents of the state: "Legislators took action based on their desire to limit the rights of a particular group - the LGBT community." Your companies' embrace of this blatant discrimination is un-American and bad for business. We demand that you issue an immediate statement withdrawing your support for HB 600/SB 632, and that you tell Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam to veto this bill. 190731-animals-for-adoption-tha t-need-a-home-bloomfield-nj We thank you! Background info: Managed by the township of Bloomfield, the shelter’s animal control serves the towns of Bloomfield, Caldwell and Glen Ridge. It has been in existence for 40+ years, inspired by Marion Brown and the Animal League of Bloomfield/Glen Ridge. The shelter has been in the crosshairs of township officials for years as Glendale Cemetery, right next to the shelter, has wanted the land the shelter sits on for expansion. If the shelter is closed all homeless or stray animals will likely be brought to Associated Humane in Newark which is already overwhelmed. Animals can be put down in as little as 7 days by state law, and it happens frequently at AHS. The shelter’s volunteers, under Bloomfield’s A Neighbor-to-Neighbor Network (a 501(c)3 organization) socialize the animals in residence as well as help potential adopters find the perfect addition to their family. Volunteers are available daily to exercise dogs, groom animals, and help shelter staff with whatever tasks need to be done to make sure the shelter is run as efficiently as possible and provide some quality of life for the homeless animals in their care. Every animal adopted out of the shelter is spayed or neutered, vetted and receive all of their vaccinations. The shelter will not adopt out any animal until it has been altered. Due to the hard work and dedication of the volunteers and cooperation from Health Department officials the shelter is an extremely low-kill shelter. The majority of the animals are adopted into permanent homes or transferred to rescues or sanctuaries to live out their lives. No animals were put down in 2009, amazing for a municipal shelter and a testament to the dedication of the volunteers. In 2010 only 2 dogs were put down, both for serious health reasons. Adoptions are handled by an all-volunteer committee and includes background checks of all applicants, home visits, and follow up to ensure successful adoptions. The town recently spent thousands of dollars renovating the existing shelter buildings, renovations which are ongoing. Volunteers stepped in to help with as many of the tasks as possible such as painting, building shelving, etc. This page, just like the shelter, is a work in progress. We are so very grateful for all of our many friends and the support they've shown us from the beginning.
