    Mistrial to be declared in Bobby Ferguson bid-rigging case

    U.S. District Judge David Lawson just indicated in court that he will declare a mistrial in the Bobby Ferguson bid-rigging case. The jury has not yet signed verdict forms reaching that conclusion, but Lawson just gave them the opportunity to do so, meaning they will no longer be deliberating in the case.

    Bing to announce plan to demolish another 1,500 abandoned buildings in Detroit

    He's scheduled to discuss the 90-day campaign at 2 p.m. at the site of home that's to be demolished on Coram, between Hayes and Brock, near Denby High School, according to a release issued by his spokeswoman, Naomi Patton, this morning. More than 350 structures on the new list were identified by students, parents and patrol volunteers of Denby, Osborn and Cody High School, Patton said.

    Detroit to lay off 164 firefighters, Bing says

    The layoffs could be temporary, as the city hopes to secure a federal grant that would restore the jobs of 108 of those firefighters. Still, there is no guarantee the city will be awarded the grant, Commissioner Don Austin said during budget talks this spring.
