  1. Activist Andy Hernandez, who opposes the Arizona immigration law, argues Monday with law supporter Allison Culver outside the Arizona State Capitol after the Supreme Court ruling. What's often called the ''show me your papers'' requirement of the law stands.

Editorial: Half-full, half-empty ruling on immigration

    • 1:27 AM

With its immigration ruling Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court drew at least one bright line -- that states can't make immigration policy on their own -- but left Arizona's attempts at enforcement for another day. In 2005 when their city drowned, the staff of the New Orleans Times-Picayune stayed in it longer than common sense and simple prudence would dictate. People who had lost homes, loved ones, and their city itself concentrated on gathering the news and putting it out. They finally left huddled in newspaper delivery trucks, water up to the headlights, decamping to Baton Rouge, 75 miles away, where they went right back to reporting the news....

  1. Editorial: Why Canada believes in Michigan

  2. Sara Jongeward: Fight the use of deadly K2 by legalizing marijuana

There is no doubt that K2 is dangerous. Those who smoke K2 frequently hallucinate, have seizures or panic attacks and experience homicidal thoughts. They become paranoid, disoriented and violent. Sold as a "pot substitute," the highs may be similar but...

  10. Supreme Court ruling on health care act unlikely to be final word

The U.S. government currently can borrow money at less than 1.5% interest for 10 years. So it seems crazy that Congress can't find a way to cover the "cost" of lending it to low-income college students at 3.4% rather than 6.8%....
