Here’s the Truth: This is Wilfred at its Absolute Best

If you ever pay close attention to the quotes at the beginning of every Wilfred episode, you should have been prepared for “Truth’s” heartbreaking ending. We break the mold a bit in this episode. Usually when Ryan is learning a lesson, things turn out for the better, having fixed a problem in his life or improved a relationship, but “Truth” changed things around. All it took to turn Wilfred’s usual formula on its head was the return of Bruce, the incredibly weird David Yoakam character and only other person who can interact with Wilfred the way Ryan can. His presence does an effective job of pulling you out of your expectations, allowing you to focus on the important question of the episode, “What is Wilfred?”

The easiest answer is he’s a projection of Ryan’s anxieties and doubts. Whenever Ryan is feeling something he can’t express, »

Greys Anatomy: Are Arizona and Mark Doomed?

Season 8 of Grey’s Anatomy left us with one single lingering question: will the survivors of the plane crash be able to continue to survive in the woods alone and injured? More pressingly, will Arizona Robbins and Mark Sloan Die? Their fates are the only two that are completely up in the air, since Shonda Rhimes inadvertently revealed Meredith, Derek, and Cristina all manage to make it to safety. But no mentioned was made of Arizona and Mark, not even a small hint. Nobody is saying anything. They clearly want us all to be in suspense, but if you look at it objectively I think you’ll be able to see the answer is much more clear than at first glance.

While both have their heads on the proverbial chopping block, the only one who is without a doubt leaving is Mark. How do I know this? It’s not »

Ashley Tisdale has Charlie Hunnam’s Back in Sons of Anarchy

Among the host of new faces rolling into Sons of Anarchy in the upcoming 5th season on AMC, and perhaps the most interesting on paper, is Ashley Tisdale, former Disney  girl turned into Samcro setting high roller escort for Kurt Sutter next season. Tisdale is set to play Emma Jean and appear in at least two episodes of season 5, and we now get a fresh look at the former Hellcat via a still featuring her with Charlie Hunnam’s Jax, the new Samcro boss.

TVline debuted the image, adding to a set of images featuring Tisdale released in June, that presented a scene that looks like she was getting roughed up. Jean and Jax look tight in this image, and one wonders if there will be any Maggie Siff/Tara drama stemming from this, though it would seem somewhat trite now, and Tisdale’s facial expression doesn’t exactly spell comfort. »

Adventure in Space and Time – Hold Up Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman, Rewind Time Lords!

Next year, 2013, will be a big one for the world’s longest running science fiction series, Doctor Who. It will mark 50 years of time travel, Daleks, sonic screwdrivers, companions and, of course, Doctors. Doctor Who is currently on its eleventh actor playing the manic space adventurer, and Matt Smith has been doing a stand up job for being the youngest man to take on the role of the Doctor. But what about that very first man brave enough to board the Tardis? In celebration of the show’s 50th anniversary, a 90-minute drama is being produced that will take a look back at the genesis of Doctor Who and the First Doctor, played by William Hartnell.

The special, which will be airing on BBC Two some time next year, will be called An Adventure in Space and Time. It will take us all the way back to the 1960s to »

Jeffrey Dahmer Jokes And The Invention Of “Too Soon”

9 August 2012 11:11 PM, PDT

The Complex takes a look at tasteless jokes in the post-cannibal era.

It isn’t too soon to make jokes about Jeffrey Dahmer.  Milwaukee’s favorite cannibal was arrested back in 1991.  The jokes started rolling out a couple hours before the arraignment.

What made Jeffrey Dahmer so weird?

It was the little kid inside him.

Now that’s a stupid, horrific joke, completely inappropriate yet repeated about a billion times between 1991 and the present day.  It’s probably not as stupid as the one that Dane Cook made about the James Holmes massacre in Colorado, but pretty stupid nonetheless.  In case you’ve been locked in an icebox, here’s Cook’s joke:

Well, what do you expect, right?  That Dane Cook was going to come up with something that was any more clever than what the average twelve-year-old would push through a mouthful of mashed potatoes?  You know better than that, »

Glee Season 4 Spoils – Lea Michele, Melissa Benoist, and Adele

9 August 2012 3:18 PM, PDT

With all the bits and pieces of Glee’s fourth season slowly tumbling out courtesy of series creator Ryan Murphy and lead girl Lea Michele, it seemed like an appropriate time to round all the spoilers up into one space. Let’s waste no time and dive right into it!

Let’s start off the spoiler show with news from TVLine of a brand new romance for Glee from two new characters. Jacob Artist and Melissa Benoist are already being paired up according to Murphy. But while new love is blooming, old love is falling apart. When Season 4 begins, Sam and Mercedes will have split up, leaving Sam single and looking. As for the other couples; Rachel will definitely be missing Finn, who’s off at boot camp while she is in New York. Kurt and Blaine may be separated, but the distance won’t stop them from seeing each other. »

American Horror Story 2: Ryan Murphy Spills Minor Spoilers

9 August 2012 10:05 AM, PDT

Things have been kept tightly under wraps for American Horror Story’s second season, subtitled Asylum, but ever since he discovered Twitter, creator Ryan Murphy has proved to be quite the little teaser, every now and then handing out the tiniest of spoilers regarding the new direction the series is taking. Up until now we’ve known Season 2 would take place at a Catholic Church- run institution for the criminally insane set in New England in the 1960s and would be overseen by Jessica Lange and Joseph Fiennes’ characters. Other than a few returning actors – Lange, Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Lily Rabe – this new season will be featuring a new cast and everyone will be playing a new character in a new story. That’s a lot of new, so it goes well with the new information revealed by Murphy.

As reported by TV Guide, Murphy has »

NCIS Rocks You With Michael Des Berres

9 August 2012 8:24 AM, PDT

A little rock and roll never hurt anyone, yet for some reason or another crime procedurals inevitably put together an episode featuring a weathered rock star, although I can only think of a handful of shows that buckled down and actually made him/her the perpetrator. Even Fringe, with all its sci-fi craziness, has done aged rocker story and did so using Christopher Lloyd. Now it’s NCIS’s turn to tackle this particular branch of crime fiction. How will it be any different from the others? Well, in all likelihood it won’t be, but that won’t necessarily stop it from being entertaining. It just needs a good rocker, and they couldn’t have picked a better one.

According to TVLine, actual rock star-turned-actor Michael Des Barres, formerly the front man of the 1970s band Detective, has been tapped to play NCIS’s one-hit wonder. The show has »

Gabby Douglas – Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley Cheer Olympian Vampire Diaries Style

9 August 2012 6:25 AM, PDT

Usually Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley and the rest of The Vampire Diaries crew are who young people are watching and admiring, but they switched it up this week by taking a moment to  give props to Team USA at the Olympics, specifically Gabby Douglas of the gymnastics team, who the Tvd team found out was a big fan of the weekly happenings at Mystics Falls.  I usually follow the Olmpics, and woman’s gymnastics specifically has historically been a very interesting and hyper-dramatic, and vividly recall watching the exploits of Kim Zmeskal, Shannon Miller, and my personal favorite, Russian Svetlana Boginskaya (who apparently is a Texan now who owns a pizza joint!). This time around, however, for whatever reasons, I haven’t watched a single complete minute of it. Go figure.

That didn’t stop Gabby Douglas from wrecking shop and  winning the individual all-around champion, and be on the U. »

How I Met Your Mother Finds Victoria a Fiancé to Abandon

8 August 2012 12:37 PM, PDT

Now that Ted has become the guy who steals the bride instead of being the one who gets left at the altar, he has a unique perspective on weddings that will cause quite a bit of guilt when How I Met Your Mother returns for Season 8. We last saw Ted driving off into the sunset, hand-in-hand with possible “the one” Victoria. The catch is, as we’ll see in the fall premiere, Ted will want to turn the car around when he learns Victoria left her fiancé at their wedding without a proper note explaining her absence. But before they can make the trip back, an actor needs to be cast to play the man Victoria was supposed to marry.

According to EW.com, Thomas Lennon has been tapped to play the poor shmuck that is Klaus, Victoria’s fiancé. Because he knows the hurt that comes from being left at the altar, »

Revenge Season 2: Who’s the First Woman for the Bisexual Nolan?

8 August 2012 11:13 AM, PDT

Life has been interesting for Revenge’s billionaire tech genius ever since he became involved in Emily’s schemes of vengeance, frequently stepping in to give her much needed advice and support, however Nolan (Gabriel Mann) may find himself distracted by another woman in his life. While Emily has never been a romantic interest for Nolan – not to mention we’ve only ever seen him involved with a man – Mann has expressed Nolan is indeed bisexual, so it’s about time we saw him with a member of the opposite sex. So let’s find out who’s been tapped to be his first onscreen female love interest.

You may recognize Dilshad Vadsaria from ABC Family’s Greek where she played Zbz president Rebecca. She was often seen stirring up trouble, which makes her perfect for the world of Revenge. According to TVLine, Vadsaria will be recurring as Padma, a “gorgeous, »

Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 – Kristen Stewart’s Bella Gives Renesmee Christmas Locket

8 August 2012 10:33 AM, PDT

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart drama will not stop the Twilight Saga train (maybe a poor choice of words there) as Breaking Dawn part 2  stays coming our way, bringing the Twilight  film franchise to conclusion (at least for now). To keep the promos rolling a new image has been released, one spotlighting the mother and daughter tandem driving the Breaking Dawn 2 plot, Kristen Stewart’s Bella and her lovechild with Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen, Mackenzie Foy’s Renesmee.

EW debuted debuted the image on their facebook page, a part of their fall preview issue.  While I’m not at all a Twilight-lore master, or even a novice, I think it shows Stewart and Foy with Renesmee’s Locket. Bella gives the locket to her daughter for Christmas, with the inscription ”plus que ma propre vie“, French for “more than my own life”. This is what it’s about as »

3 Show Monte – CBS, NBC Crime Debuts That Could Boom Or Bust

8 August 2012 10:19 AM, PDT

I’m not a huge fan when it comes to network TV crime drama. My sour opinion on mainstream crime TV is inspired by the sad smell of surrender that seems to come off of such shows: A sense that whatever material I’m watching has been watered down, spiced up and sliced into bite-sized portions for the average American intellectual appetite.

Yet two of the networks have shows premiering soon that contain such concentrated quality talent, it’s enough gravity to draw me in. Not surprisingly, they ain’t the two that Disney owns.

NBC and CBS launch these shows with a few sure-fire faces to draw audiences. It’s the folks behind the camera – the ones on the script pages, specifically – that interest me most. Combine both, mix in high-octane marketing campaigns, and these three are sure to spike in the ratings on premiere night.

After that, it’s anybody’s guess. »

Doctor Who – Richard E. Grant and Tom Ward in Christmas Special

8 August 2012 4:37 AM, PDT

Casting news for this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special has already begun to creep out, doing its job of eliciting excitement for the holiday event. Already we’ve heard the special would be the episode the Doctor is introduced to his new companion, played by the adorable Jenna-Louise Coleman, but there will of course be other guest stars. Richard E. Grant and Tom Ward have both been cast, which means we can begin the speculation as to who will be playing who, what kind of hijinks we can expect, and just how Christmasy can we expect this to be.

As reported by EW.com, you can expect to see Grant – interestingly, he played the Doctor once in a 2003 animated special, “Scream of the Shalka” – as the new villain in the special. Just look at that face of his. He doesn’t look like he would do well playing a good guy. »

The First Rule of Alphas is You Don’t Talk About “Alpha Dogs”

7 August 2012 4:53 PM, PDT

I couldn’t help but scoff a bit when “Alpha Dogs” introduced its own Alpha- run version of a fight club. Things were briefly on the nose when Bill showed up with Hicks and was told that because it’s his first time he has to fight. But the idea of Alphas getting together and using their abilities to fight each other is intriguing, and definitely something I could see happening in this world. Bill is of course the perfect candidate for infiltrating the fight club, where a man who can spit acid killed another Alpha. What starts as an investigation turns into Bill finding a better way to control his anger and powers without the use of pills. Beating the crap out of other Alphas is a different form of therapy then he’s ever experienced and he actually ends up feeling a lot better.

Of course, this doesn »

Get A Haircut Robert Pattinson – Cosmopolis

7 August 2012 12:19 PM, PDT

Well, kids, it’s almost here.  The wide release on August 17th of Robert Pattinson’s latest vehicle, the David Cronenberg film Cosmopolis, is only days away, and if you listen closely, you can hear the eager squeals of anticipation from Bobby’s legions of fans.  And now there have been brand-new stills released from the film, which we bring to you today courtesy of The Playlist.  It never quite fails to fascinate just how these guys, these screen idols, continue to elicit such rabid devotion from so many.  It’s not that I don’t understand or anything; after all, I’ve nursed quite a few celebrity crushes over the years and still do.  And as we’ve discussed here before, Pattinson’s presence in this film will lead many to the works of his director and co-stars, many who may not have shown any interest in such otherwise. »

Grimm Turns Dark Knight Rises Actor into Badger

7 August 2012 10:58 AM, PDT

NBC’s Grimm is taking its casting choices up a notch, which is what I would say of any series that borrowed actors who can be seen in any number of Christopher Nolan films. His latest, The Dark Knight Rise – you know, the one every one was talking about recently – had actor Josh Stewart in a medium to small role as Bane’s second in command. His mere presence in a Nolan film is enough for me to automatically consider him better than every actor who has not had that pleasure. It’s like being touched by God, so it makes sense Grimm would want to hire Stewart in order to get some of that heavenly love.

According to TVLine Stewart will guest star as Bill in the seventh episode of Grimm’s second season. Bill is your average, middle-class man with the slightly less than average secret of actually »

Preview the Abrams/Kring Revolution – NBC’S Apocalypse

7 August 2012 10:36 AM, PDT

J.J. Abrams, this time with Supernatural boss Tim Kring, continues his streak of consecutive years with one of more buzzier upcoming shows. Not all of the last, see Undercovers and Alcatraz, but they all at least sound good, don’t they? Next up is NBC’s Revolution which is set to show us a fictionalized earth and what happens when a lot of stuff just stops working. Obviously, we go all Mad Max, and to help us through the chaos is the familiar face of Elizabeth Mitchell, who played one of the harder female roles in recent memory, when she portrayed Juliet on Lost (which Abrams produced and is the co-creator of).

Mitchell is pictured in two image released by NBC as her character Rachel Matheson (great last name to have for the Apocalypse) where she will apparently mostly show up in a series of flashbacks, probably memories of her kids, »

Archer Season 4 Crossover! Can You Smell What the Belcher is Cooking?

7 August 2012 8:38 AM, PDT

Sterling Archer is too awesome to contain on one show, even on one channel, so FX and Fox have cooked up a crossover between the most dangerous man on television and the grillmaster from Bob’s Burgers, Bob Belcher. Let me get this out first, full disclosure, I had never even heard of Bob’s Burgers until today, so while not the ultimate in crossovers like an Archer/Tick special for me would be personally, I’m sure it means something to someone, as Bob has garnered some Emmy play for Fox. Luckily for me, I think Archer makes everthing hot by mere association.

EW broke the word of the crossover, that will occur in Archer’s fourth season. This makes perfect sense to me because the FX platform allows for more room for damage that may not play as well at Fox (though please correct me if I’m wrong because as I said, »

New Girl: Leslie Mann is Out, Parker Posey In

7 August 2012 7:52 AM, PDT

The Queen of the Indies herself, Parker Posey, has been cast in a role in New Girl’s upcoming Season 2 premiere. This is a bit of interesting news to digest because it wasn’t too long ago that the part Posey was given was already filled by another actress: Leslie Mann. It isn’t all that often you hear of recasting in television. Usually whoever gets the part gets the part. Having someone drop out of a gig is something I would expect from a movie, but TV is filmed so quickly there just doesn’t seem like there would be time to bother casting anyone unless you were one hundred percent sure they were committed. But as it stands, Mann had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts and Posey was brought in to replace her.

If I were either of these actress, I wouldn’t be all that jazzed about the part. »
