Colin Powell says yes to same-sex marriage
He's been a tad behind the curve. But it does help to have a prominent African-American get with the program, so this is still good news. Even if he has his own personal demons to deal with.

Another federal judge finds DOMA unconstitutional
From Chris Geidner at Metro Weekly:
On Thursday evening, a federal judge in California held that the Defense of Marriage Act and a provision of tax law unconstitutionally limit same-sex couples and domestic partners from participating in the long-term care plan offered by the California Public Employees Retirement System, or CalPERS.Read the rest of this post...
The May 24 decision in the class-action lawsuit came from U.S. District Court Judge Claudia Wilken, a Clinton appointee to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California whose chambers are located in Oakland, and is the first federal court decision relating to the 1996 marriage-defining law since President Obama announced on May 9 that he believes that same-sex couples should be able to marry.
Wilken joins a growing group of federal judges to find DOMA unconstitutional. Judge Joseph Tauro reached a similar conclusion in 2010 in a case out of Massachusetts that is on appeal, and Judge Jeffrey S. White in California reached the same conclusion earlier this year in a case slated for appeals arguments in September.

Cross-dressing male student permitted to wear dress at graduation
It's an interesting question as to whether it matters that he's a gay male cross-dresser rather than someone who feels that he was born into the wrong gender (I'm unclear on the terminology). Would he have a stronger argument if he were the latter rather than the former. Some would argue that both involve expressing your true self. Fair enough. But then does that negate all school dress codes? It's an interesting article, and interesting compromise by the school.

CNN refuses to take Tony Perkins' lies as fact
"Why do homosexuals bother you so much?"CNN's Brooke Baldwin, and GLAAD, did a great job here. She was interviewing the head of a known hate group, the Family Research Council, and she simply did her job. Rather than let FRC's head, Tony Perkins, spout lies, she quizzed him on everything. It was great. She didn't show bias, she simply refused to accept bias as fact, and did what any good journalist would and should. She asked questions.
Perkins spouts his usual lie that studies show that children grow up better with a mom and a dad. According to GLAAD, that's a lie. The studies show that children grow up better with a mom and a dad VERSUS A SINGLE PARENT. The study doesn't show that children grow up better with a mom and a dad than two gay parents. But FRC has a long history of playing cute with the facts. They're very good at twisting the truth in subtle ways, such as with these studies. And that's why the Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled them an official hate group, alongside the Klan, the neo-Nazis and the white supremacists.
Glad has more on this, and here's the video - watch it, it's good:

Tammy Bruce now says claim of Fox job discrimination was only a joke
Because who hasn't gone on Twitter and publicly claimed that their employer, the person who signs their paycheck, is a bigot who practices employment discrimination?
What, nobody? That's what I thought.
We reported yesterday that archi-conservative supposed-lesbian Tammy Bruce, a longtime Fox News contributor (meaning, they pay her), tweeted that she was told she can't host the O'Reilly Factor because she's gay.
Big brouhaha ensued.
Now Bruce claims she was speaking ironically, and that liberals don't have a sense of humor.
Uh huh. Because lots of public figures publicly accuse their bosses of employment discrimination, as a joke.
I'm not sure I can think of anyone who's ever done that, or would do that.
We report, you decide. Read the rest of this post...
