This is absolutely friggin brilliant. It's from a site called FreewayBlogger.com, and the guy who runs it puts up protest signs above freeways. Just think of how many people see these signs. We need to coordinate something like this around the country - or not coordinate it, just start doing it, then report in with your photos.

New CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll: Bush Convention Bounce 2 Points
In a previous post on August 29th, I said:
I've checked out all of the other polls that were taken during the convention, and none of them are anything like this. I'm going to stand by my 3-5% ahead for Bush because anything more than that would have to be a move of almost 10 points - that seems to me more than is likely. There were the two news magazine polls that were breathless in their Bush Bounce coverage. Here's a more realistic one from today's CNN/USA Today/Gallup:
Last week's GOP convention in New York City appears to have given President Bush a modest bounce and a small lead among likely voters, according to a poll released Monday. So what does this mean? This is a seven point race in the poll, 52% Bush, 45% Kerry. The lead is not outside the margin of error. To be clear, Bush is ahead, no doubt. There is also no doubt that this election is totally up for grabs. Read the rest of this post...
The CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll of 1,018 adult Americans, including 778 likely voters and 926 registered voters, was conducted by telephone September 3-5.
Bush's convention bounce appeared to be 2 percentage points....
Still, the 2 percentage point bounce could be illusory, since the poll's margin of error was plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
FLASHBACK: Bush refuses to say whether he used cocaine
We call this a coke waffle. From CNN, August 20, 1999:

Since Wednesday, Bush has been peppered with questions about drug use after he was asked in an interview with the Dallas Morning News whether he could pass a background check for federal employees. It's time to bring all of this back into high gear. Either the candidates' actions in the 1970s matter or they don't. Laura Bush and daddy Bush and Karl Rove all seem to think that the 1970s matter, so Bush needs to answer the question. What illegal drugs has he ever used, and how often and for how long did he use them? I don't care what the polls say, his religious right base - not to mention, a lot of other people - are NOT going to be happy if they find out Bush was a coke head.
That check has a question asking prospective appointees if they have used illegal drugs within the past seven years. Bush said he could pass that exam. On Thursday, he said he could have passed a background check when his father began serving as president in 1989.
Later, an aide clarified the remarks, saying Bush has not used illegal drugs in at least the last 25 years....

BUSH 'TOOK COCAINE AT CAMP DAVID'
Doh! Think we need another 527 to puruse this one, gang :-) God bless Kitty Kelly.
From the Mirror:

From the Mirror:
GEORGE W Bush snorted cocaine at Camp David, a new book claims.
His wife Laura also allegedly tried cannabis in her youth.
Author Kitty Kelley says in her biography The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty, that the US President first used coke at university in the mid-1960s.
She quotes his former sister-in-law Sharon Bush who claims: "Bush did coke at Camp David when his father was President, and not just once either."
Other acquaintances allege that as a 26-year-old National Guard, Bush "liked to sneak out back for a joint or into the bathroom for a line of cocaine".
Bush has admitted being an alcoholic but, asked during the 1999 election if he did drugs, he said: "I've told the American people that years ago I made some mistakes.
"I've learned from my mistakes and should I be fortunate enough to become president I will bring dignity and honour to the office."
Later an aide clarified his remarks saying Bush hadn't taken illegal drugs in the past 25 years.
Kelley says that the Bush family covered up scandals because of their wealth and influence. She claims George W started drinking at school and continued at Yale university to overcome shyness.
Former student Torbery George says in the book: "Poor Georgie. He couldn't relate to women unless he was loaded."
Another says: "He went out of his way to act crude. It's amazing someone you held in such low esteem later became president."

Dear Mr. Aravosis,
I have little hope that this email will actually get to you directly but I felt compelled to try to communication with you.
Following a CNN report tonight, I ran across your "dear mary" website. First I want to thank you because just this type of activity continues to build the conservative gay political movement!
Mary Cheney has no responsibility to the gay community or anyone else, other than herself. Why an organization such as yours think you have are in some position to tell people how they should act is beyond my comprehension. This woman is a member of society that just happens to be gay. Yes her Father is Vice President but why does an organization like yours feel you have the right to tell her how to conduct her life?
One point that I believe is important to make is that it doesn't matter if the Republican administration likes me, as a gay man, or anyone else. That is just the point that liberals seem to miss! Republicans believe in a government OF the people, not for the people. I've never had anyone from the federal government show up at my door to ask me what I do in the privacy of my home. They don't care! Unlike the liberals who seek to control society, Republicans do not think the federal government has any business involved in the day to day life of citizens. Although the Democrats have spent years trying to create socialism in this country, it just isn't going to happen. The United States is a Republic with a capitalist economy - just that simple.
My partner and I have been together 10 years. We have jobs, a mortgage and the normal responsibilities that go with that. Although we've lived in the "heart of the south" all our lives, we've never had problems with others in regards to our relationship. Just the opposite. Most heterosexuals find us just normal everyday neighbors. The heterosexual community is never going to be FORCED to accept homosexuals as equal. That acceptance has to come from their observations of our community.
This latest media exploitation, "gay marriage" is absolutely a joke. First and foremost, the gay community better be ready for the expense and process of divorce if they want marriage. Hell, most of the homosexuals I know will have to keep a divorce lawyer on retainer. I would be willing to guess that there are many more long term heterosexual (not married) relationship, than homosexuals. Why not give them some type of marriage category. I honestly believe the entire gay marriage issue has been created in the media by the liberals as a way to polarize the gay community against the Republicans.
The gay community has spent years blindly following the liberals. What has it gotten us? Look at the Clinton administration. More gay military were discharged after "don't ask, don't tell" than any time in history. I spent 10 years in the military. I knew a great number of homosexuals. We were always discrete and I NEVER had any problems. But, our friend President Clinton, helped bring about the greatest witch-hunt of homosexuals in the history of the military.
Lob Cabin Republican and other conservative gay organizations are growing fast in size and political activism. I hope to see the day when crap like "dear mary" is the exception and not the rule. You only add fuel to those extremist organization that use people like you as an example of the normal gay person. Thank God you are not.

Radical right leader's son is Bush-Cheney '04 youth director
From Bush-Cheney '04 Web site
Right, and they're trying to reach the moderates by using the son of Pat Robertson's lawyer to run their entire youth outreach. Jay Sekulow, you may recall, is the lawyer Pat Robertson has heading his American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), Pat Robertson's answer to the ACLU. So not only do we have nepotism here, we have nepotism intended to suck up to one of the most radical anti-gay, anti-women, anti-everything leaders of the religious right.
And perhaps most importantly, this little twit will likely get a job in the next administration if Bush is re-elected. Yes, we will now have the children of the religious right (children of the corn?) pulling the strings in the bowels of the government. This is what you get when you elect people like Bush as president - all sorts of scary scary SCARY people working in all sorts of places you NEVER HEAR ABOUT but in jobs where they have a hell of an impact on your lives.
Just lovely. You can find Jay Sekulow's praise for Bush on the Bush-Cheney '04 Web site - it's on the page with all the other homophobes for Bush. Read the rest of this post...

The Andrew Sullivan quote you should send to EVERY GAY REPUBLICAN YOU KNOW

I CANNOT SUPPORT HIM IN NOVEMBER: I will add one thing more. And that is the personal sadness I feel that this president who praises freedom wishes to take it away from a whole group of Americans who might otherwise support many parts of his agenda. To see the second family tableau with one family member missing because of her sexual orientation pains me to the core. And the president made it clear that discriminating against gay people, keeping them from full civic dignity and equality, is now a core value for him and his party. The opposite is a core value for me. Some things you can trade away. Some things you can compromise on. Some things you can give any politician a pass on. But there are other values - of basic human dignity and equality - that cannot be sacrificed without losing your integrity itself. That's why, despite my deep admiration for some of what this president has done to defeat terror, and my affection for him as a human being, I cannot support his candidacy. Not only would I be abandoning the small government conservatism I hold dear, and the hope of freedom at home as well as abroad, I would be betraying the people I love. And that I won't do.
Bush wants simpler tax code
Do we really want to trust these guys to make changes to the tax code? I'm not saying that it's perfect but these guys throw a monkey wrench into everything they touch. I wouldn't trust them to feed my cats or water my plants. Now when they talk about removing loopholes and deductions, does this mean that the house loan interest will be removed? How does that fit in with the ownership society?

In arguing for a rewrite of tax laws, Bush said that they are "a complicated mess" and "full of special-interest loopholes."
Sen. John F. Kerry's campaign contends that because many such proposals do not tax investment income like interest, capital gains and dividends, such a move would have the effect of shifting the tax burden from the wealthy to the working class. "This is the ultimate embodiment of what they've done the last four years," said Jason Furman, Kerry's economic policy director.

US General: Iraqi elections might be selective voters. Is that an example of freedom?
Selective elections, hmmm. I guess there's a reason why we prefer seperating the military from the government in the US. The issue in Iraq is that the US troops are unable to control certain regions such as Fallouja and provide security so voters in those troubled regions will either not take part or have to travel outside of their region to vote. I guess those voters will be on their own if they try leaving the area to vote but that will be there problem. That will surely go down well with those wanting to vote. With the election in the US approaching I hardly see Bush pressing for a more aggressive campaign in Iraq to eliminate hotspots such as Fallouja.

Lt. Gen. Thomas F. Metz, operations chief of more than 150,000 mostly U.S. troops, said in an interview that the "cancer" of anti-American militancy in places such as Fallouja would not derail national elections.
Although bypassing some cities could allow officials to stick to their planned January timetable, doing so could detract from the election's credibility, foment discontent in Iraq and leave other countries reluctant to acknowledge any government chosen in the vote.
Ideally, experts say, voters should feel free from intimidation and candidates should be able to move freely — elusive goals in a country where assassinations, abductions and ambushes have become commonplace. No candidates have begun campaigning publicly, and there are few signs of electoral activity. No plan has been announced for voter registration or what documents will be needed.

HOLY SHIT: The Pentagon is now trying to influence the US elections by smearing Kerry (in banana republics we call this a coup)
Ok folks, this is wrong in so many ways.
In a nutshell, the Pentagon is now spending taxpayer money to investigate John Kerry to see whether he was wrongly given his medals for his Vietnam service. Let's list the problems here.
1. When the Pentagon gets involved in a partisan manner in order to influence a US election that's called a coup d'etat. We don't do things like that in this country. At least not until today. This is horrifying.
2. It is very likely illegal for the Pentagon to spend taxpayer money for partisan political activities.
3. Where's the investigation of Bush's medals that are now being questioned? If all it takes is a letter, has someone copied Judicial Watch's letter about Kerry and sent one about Bush to the Pentagon?
This is beyond outrageous. THE FUCKING PENTAGON is getting involved in our election. People, I can't emphasize this nearly enough. The fucking US military is spending our money in order to influence our election. People ought to call their members of Congress FIRST THING TUESDAY MORNING (Monday is a holiday) and DEMAND an IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION of the Pentagon's actions, and if the Pentagon insists on continuing with its investigation, then they'd better immediately start investigating the president.
- Contact Congress here: 202-224-3121 (then ask for your rep)

Does anyone know this guy?
He allegedly kicked an anti-Bush protester who was lying on the ground at the GOP Convention, and was caught on film doing it. I had the video up earlier on the blog, but there's now an all-out search for this guy's identity so that perhaps someone can press charges.
