The "nanny" story may have been a lie
So the White House may have lied about why Kerik was stepping down in order to cover up the real reason.

Lott says Rummy must go
Rummy's toast. But of course, this begs the question of why the president has stuck with someone so long who, according to Lott, doesn't listen enough to his uniformed officers. Lott also said the US needs more troops. Love the mission creep.

Have you been turned away from church, either literally or metaphorically?
As you'll recall, the United Church of Christ's recent inclusiveness ad got rejected by NBC and CBS for being "too controversial." After all, they argued, how could they air an ad about welcoming gays and other minorities to church when the White House is trying to write gays out of the Constitution. Yes, we wouldn't want a message of tolerance out there while the White House is trying to make us second-class citizens.
Anyway, UCC is asking for your stories to post on their AccessibleAirwaves.org Web site that they're using to fight this issue. Specifically, the UCC wants to know if you've ever felt rejected by a church? Have you ever felt like you just didn't belong in the church or faith in question because you were gay, black, a woman, disabled, transgender, or for any other reason did you just feel in your bones that you weren't welcome?
If so, please read the UCC's post about this issue, soliciting stories, on their campaign blog. At the bottom of this particular blog entry, you can post your story in the "comments" section. A number of us bloggers are trying to help the UCC out on this issue, so please do visit and comment if this issue resonates for you. Read the rest of this post...

Afternoon open thread
Ok, so yeah, I've been sleeping for the past 5 hours. Everything hurts. Ugh. Feel free to email me suggestions for postings - it would help, as I don't have the energy to do much searching :-)

Bin Laden speaks again
Why the hell is this guy still roaming around? Maybe the Bushistas should spend more time going after real dangers to America instead of their continuous attacks on what they think is obscenity.

Middle of the night, sicker than a dog, open thread
Someone. Euthanize me. Now.
I gave up on trying to sleep. Is something going around, cuz man it hit me hard right around bedtime. Ugh. This means I'll either be blogging a lot Thursday out of boredom, or I'll be in bed all day begging for someone to smother me. I'll let you know which. Read the rest of this post...

"None of these ballots should be counted"
Shocking to hear these words out of a Republican, isn't it? 573 ballots were discovered in Washington, from Seattle (a Democratic stronghold) and the GOP is fighting to keep them out of the re-count. The ballots never made it into the previous counts because the voters signatures were never scanned in and now the GOP wants to void their ballots.
When the hell is the DNC going to wake up and get aggressive, I mean really aggressive, about voting problems? Do they intend on waiting until after yet another failed election? I recently received an update from the Dem's Abroad about issues and focus groups and this issue failed to make the list and with few exceptions, this issue only seems to receive lipservice. This is too critical for our future and too fundamental to our democracy to let the GOP run roughshod over our voting rights.

"This is not Walmart"
Where does the military find idiots like Brig. Gen. Jeffery Sorenson? Naturally the military has to research new products for ever-changing situations but the last time I checked, the requests for armor on the Humvees started from the very beginning of the invasion. He also makes it sound as though there are countless options for providing armor for the Humvees yet the troops in the field are settling for scrap yard pieces so something just doesn't make sense here. It must be nice propping your feet up on a desk in the Pentagon while you watch others die because you can't get your shit together for a basic request that has been on the table for 18 months. It's the CYA/I didn't do it guy over and over and over with this crowd and it starts at the top.

"This is not Wal-Mart ... this is a very detailed process in terms of trying to get this capability," said Brig. Gen. Jeffery Sorenson, adding that it takes time to study, develop, test and produce equipment needed against what commanders say is a sophisticated and ever-adapting enemy.
