Dean says keep Scalito filibuster option open

View Comments | Reddit | Tumblr | Digg | FARK
And he's right. It's pathetic that Democratic Senators -- like Joe Biden -- are saying the filibuster isn't going to happen:
Dean, asked if Democrats should keep the possibility of a filibuster on the table, said, "Absolutely. Of course we should."
Dean also nailed the frauds in the GOP who are going to start screaming for an up-or-down vote only for Scalito:
Dean charged it was hypocritical for conservatives to denounce the possibility of a procedural hurdle known as a filibuster against Alito, a federal appeals judge since 1990.

Dean noted conservatives had helped force President George W. Bush's earlier nominee, White House counsel Harriet Miers, to withdraw without even getting a hearing.

"How dare they have an ad saying we want an up-or-down vote on Judge Alito, when they wouldn't give one to Harriet Miers?" Dean told NBC's "Meet the Press."
Bush's vision for the Supreme Court is one that will turn back rights. The Democrats need to play hard ball. And Scalito is giving them all the ammo they need. Any judge who does the exact opposite of what he tells the US Senate he'll do is not worthy of a seat on the Supreme Court. And Scalito -- or Scooterlito as John has renamed him -- has a track record of lying to the Senate. That should be filibuster worthy. Read the rest of this post...

Now the White House is lying about lying

View Comments | Reddit | Tumblr | Digg | FARK
Not that we could ever expect the truth from the Bush White House, but they're newest p.r. effort is to lie about the initial lies about Iraq:
While admitting "we were wrong" about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, President Bush's national security adviser on Sunday rejected assertions that the president manipulated intelligence and misled the American people.

Bush relied on the collective judgment of the intelligence community when he determined that Iraq's Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, national security adviser Stephen Hadley said.

"Turns out, we were wrong," Hadley told "Late Edition" on CNN. "But I think the point that needs to be emphasized ... allegations now that the president somehow manipulated intelligence, somehow misled the American people, are flat wrong."
They really do take us all for fools. It's one reason why most Americans don't trust Bush anymore. Read the rest of this post...

Since Georgie is on the run over in Asia, I'm sure he's going to be getting all manner of strange drinks fed him. May we suggest he ask for one by name:
Stained Blue Dress

Scale ingredients to servings
1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
2 drops Bailey's® Irish cream

Layer.
Just remember George, we had an impeachment over something as small as a stained blue dress...

Is Bush Drunk?

View Comments | Reddit | Tumblr | Digg | FARK
Crooks and Liars has a video compilation of recent CBS, MSNBC, and CNN reports. You decide if you think that Bush is drunk in any/all of them. May we suggest you note the slurring words and the arm around Laura at the end as he gets off Marine One. Ouch. Bush hitting the bottle... Read the rest of this post...

Hollywood Isn't Liberal (and Newsweek reviews Brokeback Mountain)

Newsweek reviews Brokeback Mountain. I'd like to point out this paragraph:
The day Jake Gyllenhaal was cast in "Brokeback," the chatter around the industry was not about what a wise choice he'd made. "It's the most stupid move he could make," said one top producer over lunch that afternoon. "It'll alienate his teen-girl fan base and could kill his career. What a waste." It's always been considered risky, if not career suicide, for actors with A-list aspirations to play gay roles. Tom Hanks's performance in "Philadelphia" helped a little, but even Hanks didn't kiss another man on screen. Gyllenhaal and Ledger don't dodge it. The kissing and the sex scenes are fierce and full-blooded. But if the actors were taking a risk, they sure don't seem to think so. "I never thought twice about it," Ledger insists. "For one thing, I never felt like I had anything at stake, and I think if you make decisions based on society's opinions, you're going to make boring choices. What terrified me was self-doubt. I knew that if I was going to do justice to this character, to this story and to this form of love, I was really going to have to mature as an actor, and as a person."
[RANT]Hey "top producer" - why doesn't your bigoted ass f right off. That you have your job as a "top producer" is a waste - but it certainly shows why Hollywood greenlights so much crap. What kind of world do you live in? Because the one occupied by those closer to the "teen-girl fan base," the actual actors themselves, don't seem to care all that much.

That this attitude is tolerated in Hollywood can hopefully debunk the myth of Liberal Hollywood once and for all. Hollywood is just like everywhere else. There are good people and there are bad people. There are liberals and there are Conservatives. Their are open minded people and there are bigots. Hollywood is no more liberal than the news media is liberal.

Conservatives don't tolerate anyone who dares speak even an idea that disagrees with theirs. That others with ideas that aren't Conservative are allowed to speak their mind in the media must mean then all media must be harassed until they speak only Conservative ideas. Quickest way to do that? Paint media entirely as "liberal." Pick the most extreme of their members and define the entire industry by the behaviors and opinions of one or two. Lather, rinse, repeat for Hollywood. Once and for all - HOLLYWOOD IS NOT LIBERAL.[/RANT]

Read the Newsweek review, and check out the trailer. This is definitely going to be on my December movie list. Read the rest of this post...
