Transitional clothes take style from summer to fall

For the first time in two years, I have a tan. It's a very responsible tan; I used sunscreen and all. And it's a medicinal tan, for I'm sure it boosted my Vitamin D levels. But the fact I have a tan past Labor Day has made me reluctant to say so long to summer; the season has been so, so good.

Georgea Kovanis: Passion for fashion begins at an early age

Seeing a family shop for school supplies in Target the other day reminded me of plaid -- specifically my favorite back-to-school outfit of all time, a red dress with a drop waist plaid skirt and three-quarter-length sleeves I had in first grade.

  3. Georgea Kovanis: Be all-woman this fall in leather and lace

Even though we're still wearing shorts and flip flops, fall fashions are showing up in stores -- which means it's time to get familiar with what's out there and get shopping before the things at the top of our lists are gone. Georgea Kovanis: Give your home the relaxing look of a resort

It's summer and I'm in love -- with my new shower curtain. I've never felt this way before, at least not about a piece of fabric from Target. But the shower curtain, with its light blue and light green and silver horizontal stripes, makes me feel inexplicably relaxed and happy.

Georgea Kovanis: Vintage, modern coexist in a fashionable world

Angela Tedesco is telling me about her new favorite dress -- a lovely 1950s shirtwaist with toile print she picked up for $10 at an east side antique store. "I had to soak it a long time, it was kind of dirty," she says, her tone triumphant.

    Choices abound for maxi dresses

There's always politics and the economy and whether Jessica Simpson will be able to lose all that weight she gained during her epic pregnancy. But this summer, the liveliest debate among people I know involves the trendy maxi dress and whether it can -- and should -- be worn by women everywhere.

    Iconic brands capture special mythology

If you're not wearing them right now, I bet you've worn them in the past. I have. And we're in the company of some pretty famous folks: Gen. Douglas MacArthur, George Clooney, Madonna, Audrey Hepburn, Will Smith, Barack Obama and David Beckham have worn them, too.
