Hotline’s Editor-in-Chief Reid Wilson has been crowned “Greatest Political Mind of our Time” after winning Comedy Central’s Indecision Game smartphone tournament challenge. Wilson came out ahead of Fox News host Greta Van Susteren in the final round of competition.

Wilson and Van Susteren were among 20 of the nation’s leading political reporters and pundits who took part in this year’s competition, which launched at the RNC last month. Competitors hovered over their smartphones, answering political trivia questions in a March Madness-style bracket tournament.

Wilson and Van Susteren beat out opponents from the NBC News, Fox News, Washington Post, Salon, Politico and Roll Call.

“Greta was being nice to me for some reason,” Wilson told Politico’s Patrick Gavin. “It’s a cool app and a fun concept, the closest anyone has come to a political version of Risk in about 50 years.”

A formal award ceremony is expected in the coming days.

THR’s Marissa Guthrie peppered “Today” show EP Jim Bell with questions on a range of issues this morning. As “Today” continues to struggle in the ratings, and staff rumors abound, Guthrie gets Bell on the record about his future and “Today’s.”

When asked whether he regrets the decision to continue a Kris Jenner interview over the national moment of silence on 9/11/12, Bell says “probably,” adding, “I think more importantly than getting into one segment or one show, is to invite a broader comparison of the shows [Today and GMA]. The competition in this case has chosen to do a very different show. If you watch them side-by-side you’ll see. It’s worked for them in the short term. But we’re not going to do anything that’s going to hurt our brand and the legacy of the ‘Today’ show.”

Guthrie: Do you think the way the transition between Ann Curry and Savannah Guthrie was handled may have dinged Matt Lauer’s reputation?

Bell: I think it’s really unfortunate how that played out. And obviously the transition didn’t go quite as we had hoped. And Matt, I need to say for the record, really should not bear any of the blame for that. I’m the executive producer of the show. He’s not. He’s the public face of the show. So he’s taken some of this. But it has been wrong. And that fact should be corrected.

Guthrie: How do you overcome that? Do you think some viewers were turned off by that?

Bell: I suppose. But I think really one of the great things about being on the air ever day is you get to show who you are and you get to put on smart, relevant important programming. And Matt is probably the best guy to ever host morning television.

Guthrie: What’s your supreme ambition at NBCUni? Would you like to have some larger role at the news division or the sports division?

Monday night’s “SportsCenter” on ESPN, following that mess of a Packers-Seahawks Monday Night Football finish, drew 6.5 million viewers, making it the most-viewed “SportsCenter” ever.

If you don’t know by now, a controversial call by a replacement referee gave a touchdown, and the win, to the Seahawks. The call, replays, reaction, opinion and outrage filled much of the 90 minutes following the game.

As PRNewser reported several ESPN player-analysts challenged the outcome. Trent Dilfer, who once quarterbacked the Seahawks, said during “SportsCenter’s” coverage: “You get so frustrated with incompetence that it turns to anger. The NFL has insulted my intelligence. It’s tearing at the fabric of the game.”

The previous record for SportsCenter was 5.9 million viewers following a Monday night game which also featured the Packers playing the Minnesota Vikings Nov. 14, 2011.

Broadcasting and Cable reports the game itself averaged 16.2 million viewers, the third largest audience for any cable program this year.

There were people waiting in long lines outside Apple stores around the world this week. CBS’ Gayle King wasn’t one of them, but thanks to Charlie Rose, King is the proud owner of an iPhone5 anyway.

“We’ve been waiting for you to get one, but you didn’t get one, so I went down to the store, and look what we found for you,” Rose said as he presented King with her iPhone on “CBS This Morning” Wednesday. “We’ll have a tutorial for you.” Watch:

A correspondent for Iran’s Press TV was killed while reporting on-air in Syria’s capital city of Damascus. The correspondent, Maya Naser, was shot in the neck by a sniper, while Press TV’s Damascus bureau chief was also wounded by gunfire.

With Naser’s death, 22 journalists have been killed in Syria since the uprising began, making it one of the deadliest countries on earth for reporters trying to do their job.

Despite a strong showing early in the week from MSNBC, Fox News was the top cable news channel among ad-supported cable networks last week. FNC was third overall in primetime, behind ESPN and USA Network, and fourth overall in total day, behind Nickelodeon, ESPN and USA. FNC averaged 2.12 million viewers in primetime and 1.21 million viewers in total day.

MSNBC still had a strong week, placing 11th in primetime with 1.23 million viewers, and 13th in total day with 637,000. MSNBC was just above TLC in primetime, and just above Investigation Discovery in total day.

CNN was 31st in primetime and total day, averaging 581,000 and 406,000 viewers, respectively. CNN was sandwiched between BET and Hallmark Channel in prime, and Bravo and MTV in total day.

HLN was 47th in primetime and 41st in total day with 274,000 and 221,000 viewers, respectively. Current TV was 87th in primetime and 88th in total day with 43,000 and 34,000 viewers, respectively.

Among business nets: CNBC was 55th in primetime and 51st in total day, averaging 191,000 and 161,000 viewers, respectively. Fox Business was 86th in primetime and 81st in total day with 57,000 and 54,000 viewers, respectively. Bloomberg hasn’t been rated by Nielsen since it launched in the mid-90′s.
