Warriors lose homecoming game,
28-14

Mayes, Lowrie rush over century mark

Usually in a football game when your offense rushes for 375 yards you win the game. That was not the case for the Winters Warriors varsity football team last Friday, Sept. 28, as they hosted the Las Plumas Thunderbirds for their homecoming game.
The difference in the game was the Thunderbirds scored seven points in the second and third quarters and the Warriors didn’t. Winters lost 28-14 as they matched Las Plumas in the first and fourth quarters both scoring a touchdown in each.
Once again the game proved to be a game of inches; this time the Warriors were on the short side of the stick.
“We came up an inch short two times on the goal line,” said coach Daniel Ward. “We were not mentally tough like we have been. But homecoming week is always hard. There are a lot of distractions to overcome all week long and it’s hard for the players to stay focused. We just didn’t make plays.” . . .
