SOLD: Todd Akin's Position on Earmarks

Today from the McCaskill campaign:

Today, McCaskill for Missouri 2012 released a new web ad highlighting Todd Akin’s astonishing about-face on a Congressional earmark ban. Akin was named by the Center for Responsive Politics as one of Congress’ top earmarkers and secured more than $100 million in pork-barrel spending between 2008-2010, but National Journal’s Hotline reported Friday that Akin will now support an earmark ban, in exchange for campaign contributions from a conservative Super PAC.

The web ad, entitled “SOLD: Todd Akin’s Position on Earmarks,” contrasts Friday’s Akin headlines with recent video of Akin openly defending the practice of earmarks on the campaign trail: WATCH HERE

Not a Good Sign

Mitt Romney: Outside the Circle

The backlash from Mitt Romney's "47 percent" comments is bad. Really bad.

Bailout

Team Nixon, today: "Today, Nixon for Missouri released a new TV ad exposing Dave Spence’s role in leading a St. Louis bank that took a $40 million bailout from Washington and challenging Spence to explain why he opposed repaying the taxpayers...Spence originally insisted he resigned because of his bank’s decision not to repay the bank bailout, but after misleading Missourians for months, Spence was forced to admit to the media that he in fact voted in 2011 against paying back the $40 million bailout to taxpayers.  His explanation that he simply forgot about voting to stiff the taxpayers has been roundly criticized and brought his credibility as a candidate into question."

Blunt Helps Kill Veterans Jobs Bill

ThinkProgress: "Senate Republicans prevented a veterans’ jobs bill from coming to a vote today by forcing a budget point of order vote. Democrats came up 2 votes short of the 60 needed to defeat the GOP’s budget measure. The Veterans Jobs Corps bill — which is part of President Obama’s push to secure jobs for veterans — would have provided $1 billion over five years to hire 20,000 young veterans for public lands jobs and prioritize vets for first responder jobs such as police, firefighter, or EMT. The measure would have also provided young vets access to the infrastructure with which to assist in job searches, such as access to computers, internet and career services advisers."
