Photo of the day: Golden Penises

Hard to imagine what is going on here. Perhaps Scott – blogger from Bill in Exile needed some accent decor for his new nightclub in Seattle, Q Nightclub. Then again, perhaps not, from the photos he’s posted, it seems like the club already has enough of the real thing.

Houseguests Miro and Kiril

One week ago today we said goodbye to Miro and Kiril (brothers from Varna, Bulgaria).  They boarded their flight from Boston to head home after spending the previous 3+ months working this summer in Provincetown. It was great to host them for a few days after a long summer of hard work.  Both Miro and Kiril relaxed and talked a lot about their home, Varna, Bulgaria, which looks beautiful in pictures.

Varna BulgariaMiro and Kiril’s home is on the coast of the Black Sea and is one of the largest cities in this European Country.  If you Google “Varna” you will no doubt see beautiful photos of the coast which looks like a great place to visit in the warmer months.  I have to admit prior to meeting these brothers, I never really thought about visiting Bulgaria, but maybe some day I’ll have to go and visit this city on the Black Sea.

Best of luck to Miro and Kiril who are now home studying at University. I hope we get a chance to see them again next summer in Ptown.

“I do” support marriage equality

Miro (LGBT ally) – Varna, Bulgaria supports Marriage Equality

Last month I wrote about The Seattle Times “I do” social media campaign supporting the Marriage Equality referendum on their ballot in November. To show my support, each day this week I will post photos of people posing with The Seattle Times “I do” sign.

Will you speak out and show your support?

If you would like me to post a picture of you, please download this PDF, take a picture with this sign, and email it to: BosGuymail@gmail.com.

Whatcha readin’?

gay literature blogI love to read and on most evenings, I end up reading at least a few pages in bed before falling asleep.  The past few books I’ve read have been disappointing so I’ve refrained from providing a book review post.

Hopefully that will change as I’m currently reading a humorous book that a friend dropped off late last month. In the interim if you are looking for a few suggestions on what to read check out this blog, which I stumbled upon this past weekend called, Speak Its Name.

If you forget to bookmark this site, no worries as I have it now posted in my blogroll of blogs over there

Obama – Hendrix Mural in MA

The President’s Rock Club in Quincy, MA mural of President Barack Obama as Jimi Hendrix has to come down after a resident took issue with it, saying the mural was a political sign.

What a pity, considering the name of the bar / club the mural was sort of appropriate. Maybe they should rename their bar as the Former President’s Rock Club then they could have a mural of Bill Clinton as John Coltrane playing the saxophone.

BoMA sneak peek before opening this week

BoMA RestaurantLast week BoMA Restaurant in the South End had a soft opening, and I was fortunate enough to sit down and enjoy the meal served compliments of Shane Manfred and chef Chris Bussell. I’ll refrain from providing a full review until BoMA opens later this week, but I wanted to provide Boston foodies another glimpse of what they can expect walking into this completely renovated property.

For those familiar with Pho Republique, the transformation will be impressive.  Exposed brick, a large bar and cozy atmosphere defines this urban-chic 80-seat restaurant in SoWA.

Main dishes “Large Plates” range from $14-$27 and include a bit of something for everyone.  Meat lovers will salivate over the BoMA burger with duck fat fries $14 or the hangar steak (shown below) $26.  Seafood fans will be tempted by the roasted monkfish $22 and grilled swordfish with shrimp, gnocchi and artichokes in a lobster jus $27.  Vegetarians will like the eggplant flatbread $14 and pasta options like bucatini all’amatriciana $16.

Shown above left: Chestnut Ravioli, Duck Confit, Rabe in Pistachio Cream was incredibly rich and flavorful. Shown above right: Grass Fed Hangar Steak, Texas Hash, Greens in Chili Garlic Butter.

BoMA has an intriguing dessert menu.  I was tempted to try the “Purple Cow” made with house made grape crush, vanilla ice cream, pop rocks (you read that correct) and a pistachio cookie $10.  However, on this first visit I tried the Chocolate Ganache Torta with Pecan Cookie Crust over a pool of warm caramel.  Lets just say it was absolutely decadent. BoMA opens to the public on Tuesday, October 9th at 1415 Washington Street in the South End.  Reservations encouraged, 617-536-2662.
