Check Out 18-Year-Old Music Prodigy Jake Bugg. Listen Now, and Thank Us Later!

In one week, three of my most trusted music-loving friends asked if I had heard of Jake Bugg yet. So, naturally, I checked him out, and by the end of the first verse, I was hooked. At a mere 18 years old, Jake emanates a level of nostalgic soul that seems impossible for someone his age. A working class kid from the UK, he taught himself to play guitar when he was 14, and then the songs just spilled out. Check out his hit "Two Fingers" here! read more

19 '80s Covers That'll Perk Up Your Playlist

OK, I may have gotten a bit carried away putting together this playlist, but it's important. It's '80s music, and as we all know, a great '80s song can make you drop everything faster than a fire alarm and sing, sing, sing. So: barring the amazing covers you and your friends do of these songs every weekend, these are the most fantastic. They're slow, fast, indie, rap-infused, happy, sad, bright, sweet and, most of all, familiar. (Click on the playlist to open it in Spotify and see all 19 tracks.) read more

The Best and Worst Moments of the 2012 American Music Awards

I always look forward to the American Music Awards because there are way more performances than most award ceremonies, but my one critique is that overall the show is a bit lackluster when it comes to unexpected, controversial moments. This is a room full of crazy rock stars—why does it run like a smooth machine? All that aside, the show had its best (and, yes, worst) moments... read more

Vampires, Jewels, and a Much-Needed Dose of Every Musician Ever Means I'll Most Certainly Be Eating My Fair Share of Popcorn This Weekend

Aside from the bright red Christmas cups at Starbucks, there is little that gets me as excited this time of year as a new crop of holiday movies (even though, admittedly, there is seemingly an infinite number of times one can watch Love Actually and A Christmas Story). And... drumroll, please... here we go! read more

A Perfect Monday Treat: A Bon Iver Tune Set to the MOST Adorable Video Starring...Kittens!

We all know and love Bon Iver. The band's front man Justin Vernon broke out on the scene with quiet force in 2007, and ever since his music has gracefully carried us through scenes on shows such as Grey's Anatomy and Brothers & Sisters and movies such as The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Now he comes at us with this too-cute-for-words video designed to introduce his collaboration with the cruelty-free footwear brand Keep. What's cuter than a kitten in a shoe? A kitten in a shoe set to an awesome song that's appropriately named “Babys.” read more

Can We Discuss How Stunning Rihanna's New "Diamonds" Music Video Is?

My feelings toward Rihanna are way more conflicted than with any other celebrity. I love her SO much—her music gets me dancing like no other, I think she's gorgeous, and, to be honest, I admire her I-just-don't-give-a-damn, badass attitude—but the whole Chris Brown thing makes me sad. It's like when a best friend is dating somebody truly heinous, and you know your friend could do so much better. read more

In Honor of Rihanna's Upcoming Album, Unapologetic, Let's Take a Stroll Down Memory Lane.

Have you heard any of the iTunes previews of the songs from Rihanna's racy new album, Unapologetic—out Nov. 19? Her first single, "Diamonds," is out now if ya haven't heard. First impression: the album's title is fitting, if song collaborations with Chris Brown (spoiler: it's called "Nobody's Business") are indicators that my girl Ri-Ri doesn't give a flying f@$! read more

Come Listen to Our Election 2012 Playlist

Everyone knows that Election Day is the most underrated holiday. It's a time to step back and reflect on the past four years, where you are now, and where you feel this great land of ours is headed. But who says you can't stock up on a 24-pack of patriotic Budweisers—or red, white, and blue popsicles—and kick it with friends and family on election night? Here's my politically-conscious, regardless of the party you support, election party playlist to help you celebrate... read more

Meet alt-J (Δ), Winner of the UK's Mercury Prize, the Award That Catapulted the Careers of The xx, Arctic Monkeys, and More!

If you're a fan of Radiohead, then let me blow your mind with UK based band alt-J (Δ), who took home the Barclaycard Mercury Prize award for Album of the Year last week. The award was created in 1992 to celebrate and support UK based bands, and if its prestige says anything, it's to watch out, because many a music career has been boosted just from being nominated. read more
