Shane Schoeller Really Wants You To Vote For Him This August

The other day I received the gamut of Republican lit dropped at my door: Romney/Ryan, Robyn Hamlin, Ed Martin, and the like. A few days later I read them just to see what their messaging was.

Then I saw Republican Secretary of State nominee Shane Schoeller's. In case you hadn't heard, Rex Sinquefield is trying to buy Shane as his own personal Secretary of State.

I was reading Shane's lit, and noticed theat very bottom, it reads

...With your support I will put my experience and our shared conservative principles to work to defend our sacred institutions! I'm asking for your vote this August!

You'd think someone who is getting big time bankrolled by ol' Rex could afford some new lit.

Top 10 Things to Look for in Tonight's Randles-Spence Debate

  1. Will Bill Randles repeat his attacks against Dave Spence for voting not to repay his bank's bailout?  If so, will Spence immediately file a lawsuit against him?

  2. Will Dave Spence explain why debating Bill Randles makes sense now,but didn't make sense when they were actually running against one another?

  3. Bill Randles had criticized Dave Spence for having no new ideas and sticking to talking points.  Did Randles, as a paid campaign consultant, provide Spence with talking points for this debate?

  4. Will Bill Randles repeat his challenge for Dave Spence to release his academic records, so the public can see the coursework one must complete to earn a home ec degree?

  5. Will Randles get louder cheers from the crowd than Spence, as was the case at their only real primary debate in Springfield?

  6. Is this silly charade at least designed to raise money for charity?

  7. Will Randles again be declared the clear winner of the debate?

  8. Has Randles explained to Spence what the electoral college is?

  9. How many audience members will leave the auditorium determined to write-in Bill Randles on the ballot?

  10. If fake candidate Bill Randles is there to play real Gov. Nixon, who is Dave Spence there to play?

Kinder Kan't Kontain Teh Krazy

Raw Story: "Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder (R) on Thursday warned that 'Albanian' election monitors who will observe polling places on November 6 are part of President Barack Obama’s plan to let the United Nations take over the United States. 'UN observers, monitors, have no business in our elections and should be kept out of Missouri,” he told radio host Dana Loesch. “I’m calling on legislative leaders in the majority party in both the House and Senate — Republican leadership — to join me in saying we will not have these UN election monitors in our state.'"

"I think the agenda is to suppress votes in conservative areas," Kinder said.

Real Words: Missouri Voters on Why They Support Sen. Claire McCaskill

A trio of new ads from Sen. Claire McCaskill's campaign with Missourians speaking, in their own words, about supporting Claire and her strong record on the minimum wage, the middle class, and Medicare.

Mitt Romney: Economic Traitor

New ad from Workers Voice, a Labor backed SuperPAC, hitting Mitt Romney on Bain Capital's outsourcing of jobs at Sensata Tech in Northern Illinois to China. When executives from the new plant in China came in to visit the factory, Bain Capital made Sensata staff take down the American flag until they left.

Oof. That's going to leave a mark.

AFL-CIO President Trumka on Shane Schoeller's Voter Suppression Tour

On the heels of the St. Louis Post Dispatch's endorsement of Jason Kander and brutal take down of Shane Schoeller's voter suppresion campaign and efforts by Rex Sinquefield to buy Schoeller the Secretary of State's office, the AFL-CIO has released the following statement from President Richard Trumka:

Republican candidate for secretary of state Shane Schoeller is holding a “Voter Suppression” tour today to rally for a Missouri voter ID law with other secretaries of state who have passed repressive photo ID laws in the their states. Schoeller has made voter ID a central focus of his campaign and will lead voter suppression rallies through breakfast, lunch and dinner, despite rulings by federal courts against similar laws in South Carolina, Texas, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. His breakfast rally will feature conservative extremist, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, notorious for his role in architecting Arizona’s SB1070 bill, one of the country’s ugliest anti-immigrant laws that encourages racial profiling, and one of the country’s strictest voter ID laws in Kansas. Also joining Schoeller on the tour are Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz and Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.

“The right to vote is too important to be undermined by political gimmicks like those of Missouri Secretary of State candidate Shane Schoeller and the politicians traveling with him on this shameful tour – Kris Kobach of Kansas, Matt Schultz of Iowa and Delbert Hosemann of Mississippi," said AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. “The ‘tour’ they are bringing through the state would more accurately be called a Voter Suppression Tour, and it is up to us to reject these misleading and divisive political attacks.”

The AFL-CIO has been on the frontlines in protecting against these assaults on millions of Americans’ right to vote with its My Vote, My Right campaign, a far-reaching voter protection program that has paired up lawyers with local community allies to educate and protect those who don’t have the resources to fight unreasonable voting restrictions.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch Endorses Jason Kander

In today's St. Louis Post-Dispatch, is an endorsement of Jason Kander, candidate for Secretary of State:

Mr. Kander, a veteran and an attorney, has the intellectual capacity and bipartisan spirit it takes to serve as the state's top election official. Missourians can trust that Mr. Kander won't be owned by one, very wealthy donor. He'll protect the right to vote, not auction it to the highest bidder.

Post Dispatch: Todd Akin Arrested Multiple Times

UPDATE: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has published their full story on Rep. Todd Akin's multiple arrests. You can read the story, in its entirety, here.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In an email exchange released by Todd Akin's spokesperson, Rick Tyler (he of calling Sen. Claire McCaskill a "Bullshitsu" claim to fame), Kevin McDermott of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reveals that Akin has been arrested not once as his campaign has acknowledged, but multiple times:

ST. LOUIS – Congressman Todd Akin was arrested at least four times in the 1980s during anti-abortion protests, not just the single time he has publicly acknowledged, the Post-Dispatch has learned.

Congressman Joe Walsh (R-IL) told reporters there should be no abortion exceptions even for the "life of the mother," because "with modern technology and science, you can't find one instance" in which a woman would actually die. Same goes for “health of the mother,” Walsh said; no exceptions needed there either.
