TABLES OP THE LAW. Arabic Alwah الواح
pl. of Lauh. The giving of the Law to Moses on tables is mentioned in the Qur’an, Surah vii. 142: “We wrote for him (Moses) upon tables (alwah) a monition concerning every matter.” But Muslim doctors are not agreed as to number of the tables. The commentators al-Jalalan say that there were either seven or ten. [TEN COMMANDMENTS.]
