While Bill O’Reilly and the Fox Newsies hype their faux War on Christmas, their behind-the-scenes boss, Rupert Murdoch, is poised to receive some major gifts this month from the United States government in the form of a change in FCC rules that would allow him to buy the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune, the major papers in the nation’s second- and third-largest cities (where, incidentally, Murdoch already owns TV stations). This rule change was attempted in 2007, under the George W. Bush administration, but was repealed by the Senate and overturned by a federal court after a big public outcry. Now, the Obama administration is considering the same changes. We join with Free Press in urging that you speak out against this change.

Although Megyn Kelly is a professional working mom, she is still part of the ladies auxiliary in the "war on women." The day before Rush started his three day full frontal attack on Sandra Fluke, Kelly, with her trademark snark, mocked Fluke and that was the beginning of Fox News' crusade against Fluke which, like the rest of the right wing slime factory, advanced the bogus talking point that Fluke wanted free birth control for herself - a notion that morphed into ongoing claims that Fluke was, as Rush asserted, a slut. Kelly and other Fox talkers also accused Fluke of having a sense of "entitlement." Now that Sandra Fluke has been nominated for Time Magazine's "Person of the Year," the right wing is ballistic. The Five's, Andrea Tantaros smeared Fluke by promoting the false and defamatory meme that Fluke wants free birth control for herself. And earlier this week, during a panel discussion on Fluke, Megyn Kelly didn't disappoint!

Earlier this week, Bill O'Reilly brayed about the awesome freedom and prosperity of non-nanny state Texas - as opposed to California which, for Bill, represents the worst of the "nanny state." He provided stats which showed that Texas is ahead of California on a number of matrices. As with much of O'Reilly's bloviation, his stats aren't entirely correct. And during his diatribe, he asserted that Texas doesn't believe in "micro-managing" its residents. As with much of O'Reilly's bloviation, that too is malarkey, given that Texas abortion restrictions are all about micro-managing women's bodies, including reading scripts that are, like Bill's, a steaming pile of bold, fresh, Texas sized bullshit!

Bill O’Reilly interviewed his scapegoat of the week, Governor Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, tonight regarding his sin of calling the state’s tree a “holiday tree” instead of a “Christmas tree.” Every year, O’Reilly carries on his malicious crusade against those who don’t celebrate the holiday the way he thinks they should – and then blames them for ruining it. Tonight, his antics turned laugh-out-loud ridiculous as he repeatedly shouted at Chafee for “making people unhappy” and then shouted, “I’m not angry! I’m a happy guy!”

Nothing says Grover Norquist is losing stature among Republicans like an interview on Your World in which host Neil Cavuto just “asks” if he’s behaving a bit like Tony Soprano.

The Five’s Andrea Tantaros blasted the choice of Sandra Fluke as a candidate for Person of the Year. Not only did she call Fluke a “terrible” choice, she suggested that Time might actually go bankrupt as a result.

It's that time of year when Fox News mounts its annual crusade against those who are allegedly waging a war on Christmas which, according to Gretchen Carlson, is all about Jesus. Yet, Fox pundits have no problem attacking those who do not hew to the Fox orthodoxy. While Americans celebrate the holidays with ham and turkey, Fox loves the smell of roasting scapegoat. This year's repeat victim is RI's gov. Lincoln Chafee who has the audacity to continue, like his GOP predecessor (sshhh), designating the state tree as the "Holiday Tree." Fox's apoplexy began when the governor's office said that there would be no tree lighting at the state house. But that was a mistake and the governor personally told the people of his state that the lighting would take place. But these facts did not deter Fox & Friends First which, in its zeal to smear the governor, actually served up a steaming, pile of bullshit.

Bill O’Reilly is really losing it over Gov. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island. Two nights ago, O'Reilly was so infuriated over Chafee’s supposed war on Christmas, i.e. his failure to make it Christ-y enough, that O'Reilly spitefully instructed his viewers to send Christmas cards with pictures of Jesus to the Rhode Island statehouse. Yeah, that really puts the Christ back in Christmas, eh?

As far as I know, the Catholic Church isn't on board with lying. But Catholic Bill O'Reilly, as I reported, doesn't seem to have a problem with it. Maybe, because he's looking out for us, he gets a special dispensation. Who knows. What I do know is that at the beginning of the "Watters World" segment, during which Jesse Watters interviewed some very articulate Brown University students about the "holiday tree," O'Reilly wasn't telling the truth.

In 1964, Bob Dylan talked about how the "times, they are a changing." Flash forward to 2012 when the "waters have grown" and I'm not talking hurricane tidal surges. Not only is same sex marriage legal in a number of states; but the American people, especially the younger generation, are far more tolerant of this new family structure. While "the "old road is rapidly aging," the aging "family values" crowd is still fighting against what they see as an assault on sacred traditions. Same sex marriage is now legal in Washington and Fox News, as the mouthpiece for the homophobic Christian right, is now providing a platform for those who actually think that gender neutral marriage forms signal the imminent destruction of  heterosexual relationships. You just can't make this crap up - but Peter Johnson, Jr., is giving it his heterosexual and possibly homophobic best!
