Today in Brian Nieves: TwItTeR AtTaCkS
Submitted by Parker on December 7, 2012 - 9:39amIf you're not a "Tuff Guy Lib" who has nothing better to do than go on the ATTACK against State Sen. Brian Nieves (R-Washington), the incoming Senate Majority Whip and Vice Chair of both the Senate Education and General Laws committees, you likely missed Nieves' twitter rant last night against "Tuff Guy Libs" who live in "Momma's basement."
So here you have it, in all its misspelled, randomly capitalized, ranty glory:
And remember, this is who Senate Republicans have elected to be a member of their leadership team, a man with an extensively documented temper problem.
A Fairy Tale
Submitted by .Sean on December 5, 2012 - 7:23amHere's a story about a prosperous land where things went downhill after a few people stopped paying taxes and started creating economic crashes.
Does this sound familiar?
Birtherism Lives in the Missouri Legislature
Submitted by Parker on December 4, 2012 - 2:29pmIf you thought Birtherism would cease to exist upon the reelection of President Obama, you'd be wrong. Especially when it comes to the Missouri Legislature.
Rep. Lyle Rowland (R-Cedarcreek) prefiled HB 41 today, the summary of which states:
Requires proof of identity and status as a United States natural born citizen for the office of President and Vice President to be submitted with other required certification documents to the Secretary.
No word yet on whether newly minted Speaker, and Missouri's original birther, Tim Jones (R-Eureka) will cosponsor the latest edition of radical birtherism.
Birther Tim Threatens to Sue McGraw Milhaven
Submitted by .Sean on November 29, 2012 - 9:17amShot: "[McGraw] Milhaven thought perhaps he could lobby Jones onto his show with free tickets to a St. Louis Rams game...When Daily RFT contacted Milhaven yesterday to discuss the plot, the radio host said he'd just gotten off the phone with [Birther Tim] Jones. "He called me and started screaming about how I was belittling his office and disparaging his family. All I want to do is take him to a football game. When I asked if he and his wife would still like the tickets, he shouted 'leave my wife out of this' and suggested there'd be legal action if I kept it up."
Chaser: "This from a man, mind you, who is a documented birther, is known to tweet about avenging the 'left wing trolls', and was only too willing to advocate for laxer gun laws the day after a gunman killed 12 people in a Colorado cinema this past summer."

St. Louis Earns Perfect Score in LGBT Equality Survey
Submitted by Parker on November 27, 2012 - 12:33pmJust as St. Louis County considers Bill 279 tonight which would sexual orientation and gender identity to the county's anti-descrimination law, a new survey shows that St. Louis City is one of 11 cities nationally receiving a perfect score of 100 on the Municipal Equality Index (MEI), the first ever rating system of LGBT inclusion in municipal law.
From PROMOMissouri:
“We are proud to see the prominence of Saint Louis to be one of the 11 cities with a 100% score. It reflects the value the LGBT community provides to the health and prosperity of our city. We look forward to Saint Louis County taking the next step towards justice by approving the nondiscrimination ordinance at tonight’s County Council meeting,” said A.J. Bockelman, Executive Director for PROMO, Missouri’s LGBT advocacy organization.
Additionally, Kansas City was one of a quarter of cities surveyed nationally to receive over 80 points, receiving 85 points. Unfortunately, while St. Louis is continuing to move forward and serve as a beacon not just in Missouri but nationally as what can be achieved, Jefferson City was one of just three cities out of 137 surveyed to receive a score of zero points.
The MEI rates cities based on 47 criteria falling under six broad categories:

Stand With Walmart Workers on Black Friday
Submitted by .Sean on November 21, 2012 - 9:04amLast month, employees at 28 different Walmarts all walked out of work simultaneously to stand up for living wages. But this Friday — Black Friday — it’s gonna get even bigger.
Flashmobs, Twitter storms, and justice-themed caroling are just a small portion of what will sweep Walmarts nationwide on the biggest shopping day of the year. You can stand with Walmart strikers, and find out now how you can take part in this national outpouring for good jobs by clicking here.
In October, for the first time in Walmart’s 50-year history, more than 70 workers at multiple Los Angeles-area Walmarts walked off the job to demand a living wage, affordable healthcare, and respect from their employer. The strikes caused a ripple effect, and soon there were strikes in 12 other cities around the United States. But Walmart refused to listen, even retaliating against their workers.
Now, thousands of Walmart employees from across the country are coming together on Black Friday in an unprecedented action. The action will protest Walmart’s continued retaliation against its employees, and advocate for improved working conditions and fair schedules. But most of all, these actions are about respect.
