Sixto Rodriguez LIVE on KPFK! Tues Jan 15th Noon - 1pm
|
Join Global Village host Betto Arcos this Tuesday January 15th from 12 Noon-1pm when he welcomes to the KPFK Studios recording artist Sixto Rodriguez and Malik Bendjelloul Film Director of the Academy Award Nominated documentary "Searching For Sugarman"!
|
|
In 1970, singer-songwriter Sixto Rodriguez released his debut album "Cold Fact" to little fanfare in the U.S. and the story could have ended there. But the L.P. found its way to South Africa's underground where the anti-establishment punch sparked rebellious young Afrikaners at the dawn of the anti-Apartheid movement. The Rodriguez album was widely bootlegged and traded, and the prophetic music fueled the conscience of a powerless youth, despite the fact that Rodriguez's life and whereabouts were a mystery. It took nearly 30 years before he was rediscovered, right at home in Detroit, Michigan. |

Fundraising Update
We are now above 42% toward our $100K transmitter goal, with a total donation amount of $42,115. The transmitter has arrived safely in Glendale - help us move it up the mountain! Donate now.
We're making great strides toward getting our new transmitter. Thank you, Southern California!
|
Once upon a time in 1959, the Pacifica Foundation was granted a license to broadcast on 90.7 fm to all of Southern California. At 110K watts, it was to be the strongest signal west of the Mississippi.
In the 53 years since, we’ve experienced a lot of wear and tear from the elements: ice, wind, snow, fires, electrical outages… You name it, we’ve had it!
The new transmitter has arrived from Bangor, Maine. When it is installed, together with the other NV20 transmitter we acquired last year, we will once again transmit at our original 110K watts - a very exciting prospect for the New Year!
|
We haven't covered the entire cost of the improvement yet, though, so please spread the word to friends and family who believe that the independent voice found in the programming of KPFK is essential for a vibrant democracy.

2012 Pacifica Board Elections - Notice Jun 11, 2012
Pacifica 2012 Board Elections
The KPFK elections are over. A quorum was not reached in the listener Local Station Board Delegate election. This means the current board members continue to serve until the next election, or until they reach their six-year consecutive term limit. The KPFK Staff election may reach quorum, but this won't be known definitively until we see how many staff ballots were collected at the very end. Expect results around January 16
