It’s easy to watch Vimeo On Demand videos on tons of devices including Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, Samsung, Amazon Fire TV, iOS, Android, and more.
To do so, install the Vimeo app (if it isn’t installed already), log in to your account, and navigate to your Watch Later queue — any Vimeo On Demand titles that you’ve purchased will appear there automatically. Select the title you want to watch, sit back, and enjoy!
For some devices, you may be given an activation code. If you have one, enter it at
vimeo.com/activate to connect your account to the app.
There’s no way to permanently download a video from Vimeo onto your device, but the Vimeo mobile app does allow you to save videos for offline viewing.
To redeem a promo code, click the button for the type of purchase your code is good for (Buy, Rent, or Subscribe). Then, in the purchase window, click
Apply promo code, enter the code, and click
Apply. The purchase window will update to reflect the discount.
If you’re certain that you’re entering the code correctly and you’re seeing a message that says “
Sorry, that discount code appears to be invalid,” please contact us so we can investigate further (please include the code you’re trying to use in your message).
If you have a VIP access code, click the
Have VIP access? link beneath the purchase buttons, then follow the instructions to verify and redeem it.
If you’re seeing an error message that says “Oops. Something is not right here.”, there may be an issue with your payment method. If you’ve double-checked that you’re entering your payment information correctly (or if you’re seeing the message with multiple payment methods), please contact us so we can try to provide more information.
Sorry for the confusion! A few things may have happened with your purchase:
- Did you choose to “rent” the title? If so, please check the title’s rental period in case your rental has ended.
- Is it possible that you purchased the film under a different Vimeo account? In order to access your purchase, you must be logged in to the same Vimeo account you used to purchase the title originally. If you think you need help accessing the account you used to make your purchase, let us know and we can help out.
- The charge may be pending. It’s possible that the charge is still awaiting authorization. Once authorized, you will be granted viewing access. If the charge doesn’t go through successfully, it will eventually clear from your billing statement.
- Your payment method may have failed. If we aren’t able to charge your payment method successfully, you’ll need to try making the purchase again. If you have questions about the status of your purchase, contact us so we can take a look.

Try turning off HD mode by clicking the "HD" icon at the bottom of the player (the HD icon will turn gray when HD is off). With HD turned off, the Vimeo On Demand player will dynamically serve the video at the best resolution your connection speed can handle at any given time. This should improve playback performance.
If this doesn’t make playback smoother, make sure you have the
latest version of Flash running on your computer.
If you’ve tried the above steps and you’re still having trouble, please test your Internet connection by going to
this page and clicking Test Download Speed. Then, please contact us (and include the test results from that page!) so we can further assist you.
Creators can choose to offer their Vimeo On Demand titles in as many countries as they want, but in some cases, a title may have different distribution agreements for different global regions. If the title you want to watch isn't currently available in your region, you're welcome to reach out to the creator for more information via the Message button. They may be able to tell you where you can watch the title in your country.
Similarly, creators can choose to offer their Vimeo On Demand titles in as many languages as they want, so the responsibility falls on them to choose what languages — including captions and subtitles — are available. If a title you want to watch isn't currently available in your language, you're welcome to reach out to the creator for more information via the Message button.
While viewing your purchased video on a desktop browser, click the
CC button in the player's bottom toolbar. In the menu that appears, select the caption or subtitle track you’d like to see.
Please note that the
CC button will only appear in the Vimeo player if captions or subtitles are available for the video you’re watching. The availability of captions or subtitles is dependent upon what the creator has chosen to provide.
If you’re viewing on Apple TV, press and hold the center select button on your remote, pick the language you want, and hit the select button again. We plan to offer caption and subtitle support on other connected TV devices soon!
If you have download access to a title, you can download the video file(s) as well as the caption and/or subtitle file(s). To do so, click the
Download button, then select the desired video file and the desired caption or subtitle file. Once you’ve downloaded both files, install VLC media player, which you can download for free
here.
Once you've installed VLC, follow these steps:
- Open the downloaded video file in VLC.
- From the menu, click Subtitles, then Add Subtitle file...
- Select the downloaded .SRT file, click Open, and enjoy!
