While attempting to impress Veronica, a journalist, eccentric scientist Seth Brundle reveals too much about his invention, which transports matter over distance via instantaneous teleportation. To stop Veronica from revealing his story to the world until the device is ready to transport animate objects, he asks her to become his researcher. Their work together quickly leads to romance. Yet, shortly after successfully teleporting a baboon, Seth suffers a bout of insecurity regarding the invention and his relationship. While drinking, he teleports himself before performing adequate safety checks. Too late, he learns that a fly was caught in the transporter and its DNA is changing him into something unrecognizable. As Seth tries to fix the mistake, Veronica struggles with a horrifying secret that could change everything. |
