I see you are going for simplicity and multiple meanings this time around.

    Good luck.

These are enticing, especially the way they are calling to one another. I'll certainly be checking in over the month. Nice work!

This is one nice too. Green shoots from old roots; the shoots are evidence/signs of the old roots, and also perhaps, the root's covenant.

Interesting to see this and will be even more interesting to read them all at the end of the month. Old roots and green shoots abound...

I'm enjoying the play with the idea of "green shoots" so far. Looking forward to seeing further evolutions.

I like where you're going with this Jee--examining an object from multiple layers and perspectives.

    Looking forward to more.

Hello Jee, nice to read your thread again. I love the way these little pieces all fit so beautifully together and build. And I Love especially "frost flowers". Enjoying these morsels. I like the foreboding feeling created by "in contempt" too- it suggests a turn is coming . Looking forward to more, HaPpY NaPo!

    Hi Jee,

Sorry to hear that you had bad news.

At first I read this one as having an optimistic tone, because I assume I'm cheering for the green shoots, but contempt is not a positive emotion, and so I find myself feeling sorry for the fragile frost flowers whose end is anyway near. The contempt of the new/young for old?

Just a thought and quite possibly one with little merit, but it occurs to me that losing "of" in L2 might allows the haiku to be read as positive or negative, the contempt belonging to either actor i.e. "green shoots in contempt" or "in contempt frost flowers".

    Best,

    Matt

Jee, sorry for the bad news.

I think my favorites so far are the cutting board and new testament of old roots- how true that is!

I've heard from James that we've some lilly shoots peeping out of the ground in our back yard that can be see where the snow is gone- I have visions of lillies blooming with all the white stuff still beneath them.

Jee, I enjoyed them all but this one is a standout. So much story on so many levels here. History, religion, nature, an ecological awareness, just so much!!
