    Hi, Julie,

I've had the same trouble posting, so no worries.

I've been lightheaded and queasy enough to want to barf, but never had a migraine, so your poem gave me some insight into what it might be like:

Something swirling and bright that your eyes can't catch
and your feet go floating away, untended.

    Don't. Want. To. Go. There.

"Demonstrative" is an interesting take on current events (I assume Baltimore and the spill-over into other cities.) It's an interesting phenomenon. I remember when the Oklahoma bombing happened, I hadn't seen the news and didn't know it had happened until much later, feeling very surreal when I finally heard that I'd gone on with my day, unaware.

Who could know that somewhere across the country

someone died and rioters are rioting? It's silent here
inside these walls. We watch tennis

instead of news. The email comes. We read.
Say "What are they protesting anyway?"
And shrug and root for the underdog in the major.

It's that connect/disconnect thing that is so human.

Let the poem do the talking. Then hide behind it.

sorry it took so many days, weeks, to come back to read, but now i've read it all again from the start, and wish i could remember every perfect phrase -- loved the organ donor, the boots, both pair, the spring, shortening, walking through construction site one, which elbow one, the eye, wikipedia migraine one, the fuck your breath one, the wheelbarrow...the cats...

    Donner and Arlene,

Thanks to you both. Thank you!

I had a frustrating NaPo because of my lack of time, and of course my two big projects finished this week. *sigh*

    My timing sucks!

Of course the robin bobs there on the branch
when you did not expect her to. But wait

until you count on robins and they flit
    away, away, never looking twice

at the tree you planted right outside
the kitchen's new big window facing light

hoping for an ornament of birds.

I loved your reply. It has the mark of your unique style
and does great justice to the theme.
    warmest regards,
    Geoff
