    Proko-poetitudes Redux

I have an Ironman race in Taiwan on April 12th,
I'm teaching a full load of Eng. Lit.,
Economics, Drama, Writing Class and ESL classes,
but what the hell. I might as well have a complete meltdown..

did I mention taxes need filing by the 30th?

"breeding lilacs out of the dead soil,
    mixing memories and desire,
stirring dull roots with spring rain."

I think that last image is the most descriptive of what is about to happen here.

    Ah, well.. here it goes.

ya know what's silly, as I was reading your replies, I was groping around for the "like" button.

    heh.

    nice to be here again.
I like what the decorators did with the lobby and the hallways,
but the lounge looks a little bit strange.

    First Tree of Spring

It lay snug in its burlap sack beside
    its intended hole, freshly dug.
It tipped in easily, springing erect, as if to view
    the neighbourhood, scouting scurrilous hounds
aspiring to give their scent to its trunk.

Thirty seconds after it was planted
I stood to water it. I imagined
a thousand roots sucking up the moisture,
then, a passing robin alit among its branches
oblivious of the hungry roots beneath,
    furiously seeking their perch.

Lovely, hopeful tree! May it survive many springs and grow tall. I like the implied contrast between N's perspective and the robin's perspective at the end.

I like the change in cadence from staccato of S1 to the more languorous lines of S2. A cheery start then. Will it last?

    Ah, greetings 5th!
    - the cheer will last,
    as to the rest,
    who knows.
    I am hopeful.
    Thx for looking in.

    Hello,

OOoh, I do like the 'snug in burlap sack' - the sounds there are gorgeous, and the sense of the poem does remind me of that half-worried moment one gets when planting something large and willing it to survive. Spring!

You are such an adornment to the NaPo threads -- what a gorgeous start!
Kept up with your cat - herding, have ya?
    GOOD!
I will try harder this year to make my cat poem about cats.

Beware scurrilous hounds with full bladders!

Lovely start. I enjoyed the robin diving in there, not worrying about the tree's readiness, or the gardener's worrying about the tree's readiness. Of course its ready, it's a tree. (says the robin)

    Happy NAPO!
