It seems like it would work as a nice epitaph if you changed the tense a bit.

I cannot see the word "wee" and not think of Robert Burns.

It's a very sweet sentiment, wittily expressed... but then comes the moment where you have to work out whether to agree or disagree, and both seem a little rude. I'll agree owing to our disparate ages, but hope that neither of us has to bury the other for a long time.

Prooftheory - an epitaph? Wouldn't that be wise after the event?

Cookie - Hiya babe! Yeah, Will and me. we're like that!

Dave - And mention of Rabbie always reminds me of this.

Krista - glad you liked it!

Jen - the whole NaPo clan as an orchestra - great idea!

Rachael - yes indeed. I had nothing too hasty in mind.

Thanks for calling by, good people!

    Regards / Dunc

    THE TENANTS

    "Who’s there?"
    I said.
    "Mum and Dad,
    in your head."

    "Why? You’re dead."
    "Not quite true.
    Still we tell you
    what to do."

    I found my children
    further on.
    "Why?" I said.
    "You’re grown and gone."

    "You keep us
    inside too,
    so still we tell you
    what to do."

    Dunc,

Overture 2015 has left me with a great big grin on my face and much less of an ache in the gut. (This NaPo stuff is hard!)

Again, I am grinning with To my dearest friends. Nicely done.

Ha! You were posting Tenants when I was posting the above. I am a momma, so I totally get this little ditty.

I enjoyed 'Overture' when I first read it, and enjoyed it even more now I'm realising what NaPo is. 'To my Dearest' is fun and sweet. 'Tenants' is great, too. I like how you treat serious subjects with such good humour - and gentle humour. It makes me want to bake you lemon drizzle cake and say 'thank-you'.

reminds me of Ben Jonson...don't see a tense problem worth ruining this for.

Dunc, ridiculously jealous of the way you can always make me laugh and make the words sing too. The tenants was wonderful and poignant.
