    2nd - The Last Hotel

    We spend our days in selfie stupor,
    entrapped by dark slopes and the collapse of time.
    In the evening, inflamed by distant sunsets,
    mountains smear the lake red.

    Couples pair off until the lounge stands empty,
    a pocket of light before darkness.
    All night sand piles up on the rooftop
    and huge insects bat against the walls.

    From here on only emptiness,
    stumbling through thorns and pebble-choked gullies,
    feeling our way towards morning
    like a blind man trying to imagine light.
