    The Moping Owl Complains..

It's not as if I don't know what I am doing here..
but, what am I DOING here?

    Hi. It's me. (waves)
Taiwan is a long long way from, Oslo, Seattle, New England, and just about anywhere
but NaPo has a way of bringing us all back together again for frivolity and blood-letting
    - as in opening a vein to let the poem spill onto the page.

I heard the siren call, and before my sloop is dashed upon the rocks, I'm going to have another go
at writing a score and a half of poem-like musings.

Best of luck to all you fellows wherever you may be.

    1. Nothing Up the Sleeve

    What wicked webs we weave
    When fiercely striving to conceive
30 poems in 30 days. Will you believe
    there’s nothing up the sleeve?

One Poem’s enough for April Fool’s day
And one for each succeeding span
Of night and light; it’s child’s play
At first, but soon the simple plan

    Consumes all thought and verve
From morn to dusk and often
Later, any rhyme or theme will serve
As inspiration fades and resolutions soften.

What seems at first just jolly fun,
Ere long rankles, soon it irritates
    Before April’s course has run,
    Chafing jangled nerves, and grates.

    Producing 30 satisfactory conceits
Seems like magic, done all to deceive
But of course it’s not, because, my sweets
there really is nothing up the sleeve.

Exactly. Thanks for reminding me how irritated I'll feel in 30 days. Put together smartly, and fun to read till the slow deceptive end...it's that sweet rhyme. Maybe a comma after 'because' (S5 L3)?

Thanks Arlene, that's a good idea - so I snuck it in.
*not a critical forum so I think I can get away with it.

    I appreciate your reading,

    2. The Moping Owl Complains

"Oh, Moon," what wickedness is near
    as March betimes is ended
and the colder seasons of the year
yield the stage on knee well-bended

to the harbingers of Spring, droning beetles,
drowsy tinklings, lowing herds and swallows
twittering, spread all out as frosty needles
soon will vanish, and fog has filled the hollows.

No more March Hares and Mad Hatters
for thirty days poets quills will scratch
    in draughty garrets, lives all tatters;
April's here, NaPo's all that matters.

in puzzlement, they'll gnaw on 'taters

Your poems are delightful to read. Springy and fun...make me smile with knowing.

Wonder what the tone will be days 29 and 30.

    Hi Mike,
thx for reading. If you liked that, then you will love Gray's Elegy which is the inspiration here.
    including the moping owl!
