    The Moping Owl Complains..

It's not as if I don't know what I am doing here..
but, what am I DOING here?

    Hi. It's me. (waves)
Taiwan is a long long way from, Oslo, Seattle, New England, and just about anywhere
but NaPo has a way of bringing us all back together again for frivolity and blood-letting
    - as in opening a vein to let the poem spill onto the page.

I heard the siren call, and before my sloop is dashed upon the rocks, I'm going to have another go
at writing a score and a half of poem-like musings.

Best of luck to all you fellows wherever you may be.

    1. Nothing Up the Sleeve

    What wicked webs we weave
    When fiercely striving to conceive
30 poems in 30 days. Will you believe
    there’s nothing up the sleeve?

One Poem’s enough for April Fool’s day
And one for each succeeding span
Of night and light; it’s child’s play
At first, but soon the simple plan

    Consumes all thought and verve
From morn to dusk and often
Later, any rhyme or theme will serve
As inspiration fades and resolutions soften.

What seems at first just jolly fun,
Ere long rankles, soon it irritates
    Before April’s course has run,
    Chafing jangled nerves, and grates.

    Producing 30 satisfactory conceits
Seems like magic, done all to deceive
But of course it’s not, because, my sweets
there really is nothing up the sleeve.

Wow - I love the closing lines of this last. The bones in there are good and in some ways the close feels like the beginning?

You nailed it, man! - Later, any rhyme or theme will serve / As inspiration fades and resolutions soften. Shakespeare couldn't have put it any clearer.

Then your Moping Owl flies from a Country Churchyard Through the Looking Glass and settles on April Fool's month. Yes, that makes sense.

And alas for poor Alphonse. Not to say poor Priscilla. Oh the human condition!

Liked your wolves. Hard to think of anything that looks more mouldy and scraggly than a moulting wolf. Nice portrait.

    Regards / Dunc

Ah, Dunc, good to hear from you, mate. Thanks for the kind words. It makes the effort worthwhile and the next ones easier. I will be sure to take a run over to the pessimist's soapbox.
