    Ever the Tidepool

    Barnacle-encrusted rocks
    crowned with seaweed hair
    line this shallow pool
prowled by hermit crabs in slipper shells.
    Minnows in sunshine
    spooked, retreat to shade.
    Starfish and calico crabs,
    big clumps of mussels
    make their abode here
    in this intertidal zone.

    When the tide returns
this pool will be reclaimed by the sea
    for a while.

Wow! Posted my 30th poem with 52 minutes to spare, the first time I have met the NaPoWriMo quota challenge in nearly a decade! And 14 poems today, most of them written from scratch, or a very few lines. I can't vouch for their quality, though. 8-) Tomorrow I'll be back to dole out some long-overdue fluff, but for tonight I will just soak in the thrill and relief of completion.
