    Hi Blythe, a spooky start to the week. This one had me googling and reading ghost stories. I like the extra windows as the devil's "binocular into it's purchase" and the warning at the close (which also makes me think of the Ogilvies, who did want to be hidden, though not for as long as they were, and the 'room of skulls').

    Hi Blythe! Intriguing piece. The movement from the inward-looking windows to the devil's binos to the extra glass is terrific. When we look within ourselves, what demons will we find? Enjoyed!

    2. Magic Words #n: The Long Lost Friend

    Still-bind the crooked
    living in thief time,
    slow the wicked to sip from your hand,
    extort their compliance.

    Take a turtle dove, steal its life
    let the afflicted drink its blood
    Whatever the syndrome, leave its scars
    as a track to new health

    Boil a white lily in cream
    to make the most white soup
    place the poultice on the turtle-dove’s severed neck
    let him drink
    A cure for good wounds

    Include the bones of a calf
    the sorrowful, small baby bones;
    the eardrum, the hip, the hocks, the bones of the soft organs;
    in your library of burnable things.
    The acrid powder they leave behind
    will mewl and cry you to sleep.

    Gather all of these good things
    For how else will you live the righteous life?

    A song I often sing goes,
    as long as the apple of the eye is sound
    sound ye as teeth on the whole apple skin
    an orb is round, whether eye or fruit
    bitter or sweet, bite down to truth

    Here are words you don’t know:
    capuchin, cammock, hog’s lard, your name,
    the sound you cry out every morning

    Enchanting spell. The last stanza is absolutely charming, and affecting.

    Hi, Blythe,

    I think one of the creepiest stories I read in junior high was Poe's The Cask of Amontillado. (OK, The Pit and the Pendulum and The Tell Tale Heart also gave me a few nightmares, thank you very much, Edgar.) "Glamis" does it's mention justice, especially the inward-looking windows and the demon's binoculars.

    "Magic Words" is haunting and musical at the same time. Quite the spell.

    Hello Blythe,

    what I enjoy about the last two is their urgency. Both the language and structure move the poems on at pace.

    Hi Blythe,

    Great start to Sevens with your spooky Glamis. Your language carries the theme so well.
    Your second woos me with its creativity and how it speaks between the words. I'm excited to see what you brew up next!

    Regards Maggie

    Hi friends, thank you for reading. I've mucked up this sevens, taking on too many commitments. Looking forward to Januray.
