    White Magic

    Teardrop wrapped in silken paper
strong enough to make a demon cry:
rub it on your doors, your chimney,
wear a single clove around your neck.

Ghosts and vampires shrink in terror,
spells and curses fail to do their harm,
    Werewolves turn and flee its power;
when garlic's in the garden, all goes well.

    Doubles

    My first sight of Erica
    through the glass door:

    a kitten's first glimpse
    of its own reflection,
    crossed with the Marx brothers'
    mirror routine.

    Spring Dream

    Beside the grassy river bank,
    scattered beams of sunlight dance
upon the checkered cloth we've spread
    to welcome April back again.

Our wicker hamper yields a feast:
    roast chicken spiced with tarragon,
    a carrot salad, Camembert,
a slim baguette, an apple tart.

    A lazy dragonfly flits by,
    a hungry fish jumps in the stream;
we clink our flutes of bubbly white
    to celebrate this perfect day.

    In the Courtyard

    Raspberry red, the roses climb
    up the dusty limestone wall

Bees hum a tune among linden blooms
    balmy with honey and grass.

    Surprise! Alliaria's delicate looks
    belie her mustardy garlic scent.

    Malinda,
Your clever theme allows for much fun and mischief and education. Scrabble Day had me laughing, Garlic Day! who knew? Lovely description that! as for Animal Crackers Day, you had a field day there, as did I!

White Magic ─ a sad fate, being a demon, ghost or vampire and condemned never to have garlic in your soup. I read your poem, breathe in, and there's my soup before me!

Doubles ─ Erica is a kitten? National Look Alike Day would work beautifully for kittens.

Kindergarten Lune ─ Lovely pic, lovely kindergarten garten.

Terra Lune ─ Yes, sorry, we had something to do with that, even if we had a bit of help. "blue marble" is perfect (until it's brown).

Spring Dream ─ quiet flows the Loire, laughter from the picnickers ... fresh and green.

In the Courtyard ─ strolling by the ol factory ... do linden buds have a scent, btw? Ah, so that's alliaria ─ "garlic mustard". Sigh.

How delicately, clearly, you show the spring and the countryside!

    Regards / Dunc

That is a dilectable scensorium; with visuals that are somehow scented. I wonder if you can do without the "surprise!", but to be honest I'm undecided.
What is the work if it isn't a ticket to slip into vivid euphoria?

Sorella, Dunc, Cameron, so happy to see you as I sprint toward the finish line and fall into a heap.

Dunc, I met Erica in the college cafeteria entry, and we both laughed. It always felt like catching a glimpse of myself in a shop window when our paths crossed on campus. And yes, linden flowers smell just as they're described.

This is How You Lose her

    The road home,
    the ground beneath her feet,
                              slippage

         unaccustomed earth

    all at once
         push

      slump

    liberty falling.

    All that remains:
    the shadow of the wind,
    what the thunder said.
