Welcome! Glad the Mistress of Ceremonies joins in her own marathon agonies! Especially as I do want to read some Donner in April.

Yay! I have bath bombs, and rescue remedy, and a small supply of gin. Looking forward to reading you this April.

    April 1 - Wishes

Good to see so many familiar NaPo faces participating this year!

    * * * * *

    Wishes

What woman asks for a leaf blower
    for her 70th birthday instead
    of a celebratory Caribbean cruise?
    And what son gives her
what she asks for? A cordless one
    with multiple speeds, lightweight enough
to hold through the entire job
    without hurting her shoulders
and quiet enough that she can start it up
before 9 AM without waking up
the neighbors? A son who works
    in the hardware department
    and who knows nothing
would make her happier on her day
than a leaf-clean patio and driveway.

Nice one, playing against stereotypes! And getting a useful leaf blower in the bargain.

Very nicely done - and, as ever, shows character by action and love through 'doing' (and, in this case, listening). Nice subtle rhyme at the end, too. And nice repeat of 'up', not at the start of the line, where it would be more usual, but at the end, where it adds a different kind of sense-making through repetition. I feel a tiny bit sorry for the leaves.

I am picturing all the family get-togethers that happen on that patio and all the cars parked in the driveway, and how she'd rather gather with them than be out to sea. And maybe it's just nice to look out at that clean slate, too. Good job son for knowing mom's heart. (I like that break on nothing!) Lovely start!
