    On being an April Fool

Written 2024 Mar 20 in Sydney, Australia

    Today’s the autumn equinox,
overcast, windy; I wore a coat.

I have donned nor coat nor sweater,
not slept by doona, rug or blanket
since two weeks shy of half a year,

a fact that scares me all to hell.

And here I am antipodally looking forward to spring! Stay warm, friend. I have been under doonas and such for the past six months, but haven’t heard the word “doona” in a while.

It’s good to see you here again!

You had me at X, Dunc.

    But what a first poem.

Hope it’s not too warm for a virtual hug.

Glad you see you here, Dunc. A Napo essential!

I like how you show what your worries are without saying them outright but we still know.

Also, doona is new to me.

Dunc! The elements should be afraid of you not vice versa.

Sarah ─ Thanks for your kind words! Should I chance to be in the UK, of course the Coldest Flat Ever is on my bucket list. Especially with y Mynydd Du thrown in.

    Yo, Blythe!

Jee ─ A serious Fool? Oh a private buffoon / is a lighthearted loon, as Gilbert said to Sullivan, but didn't mention anything about 30 days.

Neil ─ Let's see what winter can do ─ other than storms and floods, of course.

SPS ─ Thanks - but whether I manage hot or just cold, it'll be what it'll be.

Louisa ─ Out on the moor? From the hag and hungry goblin / That into rags would rend ye / The spirit that stands by the naked man / In the Book of Moons defend ye, I take it?

Yo, Gofef! Yes, I don't mind a bit of cold in winter, though as you know, moderation in all things is my byword.

Ray! A delight to see you here! Welcome back indeed! Pull up a pen and make yourself famous just as before!

Jane, me dear, may we each have a grand April!

Vicky ─ not to know what a doona is? I'm shocked, shocked, as Claude Rains put it.

Larry ─ Greetings, greetings! May April be a month of found harmonies!

    My gratitude to you all.

    Regards / Dunc

    Homer

The Iliad was such a hit
    the Odyssey soon followed it,
though titled when it first was new
    Troy Story II.

    19 years strong!

NaPo just wouldn't be the same if you weren't here.

    Thanks, Emily

Time hath sewn a grizzle on my case, and it's actually NaPo 20 for me, but hey, who's counting?
