Daughter of Ellipses

After the sorting she stored
a horde of things she will never tell

or sell. Jane saves. Old souls
and curmudgeons, unraveled yarn,

conflicts of interest and foil
ornaments, jars of any size.

A belt of pressed kelp. Moss.
A rubber stamp she believes

displays her appointed date.
The aborted missions of three

cocoons. Casualty losses:
duly noted. Pain killers:

in order. It will take more
length than one arm to measure

the transaction.
Jane’s hyphen

- dangling and uncertain -
grows longer -- and longer still --

an em dash can be allowed
only so much liberty.

I love how you came back and finished with aplomb, developing the poems till they
seem to have left the books entirely, indeed, I suspect Jane is N. Maybe?
