rope jumper

Hayden suddenly got it!

He would watch Layla jump rope when we lived in Ohio.  She was in a jump rope club at school and she would come home and practice and he'd get so mad that he couldn't do it. I think he hung his rope and walked away and moved on to other things! haha!

Well, now he's a jump roping pro!  I love how he gets his 'game face' on.  He sticks that tongue out and gets after it.  He can even criss cross the rope in front of him!  Woohoo!

I'm so proud of this girl!  Last night at tumbling she rocked her back handspring!

Roller skating the day away

What do you do on a rainy Georgia day?  You go roller skating for the first time!!

Layla and Hayden skated for the first time and it was a wild few hours.  There are bruises and bumps to prove how fun and frustrating it all was!!

Our friends have all skated before and they took a few minutes to get their balance and they all rolled away from us.  I needed some time too.  I haven't skated since I was a kid, but I did ok getting myself reintroduced to my wheels!

These two were very frustrated and wanted me to get them a walker, but no way Jose.  I just told them to take their time and go slow.  I'm not gonna lie, I was worried they'd hate it forever.  Layla fell and was so stinkin' frustrated she shed a few tears.  In the end they both started liking it and felt much more comfortable by the end of the day.

We all refueled with a snack and then headed back out!

What a fun way to spend a rainy day!!

exercise and exploring

Yesterday my lovely Chef friend, Piper and I decided to go explore Kennesaw Mountain.  She has been multiple times, but I am still learning all about my surroundings in Georgia.

I seriously discover a new restaurant or park every single day.  It's awesome here y'all!

We hiked about a mile up a steep mountain and took in the gorgeous views all while getting in a good cardio workout. I was a little outta breath and my legs were feeling the burn!

Part of the Civil War was fought in this area, so it's basically an outdoor museum.  Pretty cool huh?!

The weather was perfect and I loved being outside since it's been raining so much.   The park was busy and bustling; everyone was enjoying the sunshine.

After our 3 mile hike all together, we decicded to try a Colombian restaurant in Marietta square.

I really enjoyed the tamale we split.  It had huge chunks of chicken and pork inside.  It wasn't shredded meat like you'd think and this tamale was totally different from any tamale I'd ever met.  It was steaming hot and the corn outer layer was absolutley mouthwatering---delish!  Sooooo then we needed to workout again.  hahahah!

We had a fun day and I'm so thankful for my new friend!

a little Sunday workout talk

Sometimes I update y'all on Instagram, and other times I don't.  Maybe I should stay consistent with posting all that stuff, but I'm not an all up in your face kinda person.

When I added these numbers up just playing around I thought it all sounded pretty neat-o.

I burned 2,497 calories 5 days and it only took 6 hours of my week.

The white watch-thing in the pictures is my heart rate monitor.  It has a chest strap that counts every single heart beat while I workout.  The top number on my watch in this setting shows calories burned.  The middle number shows calories burned percentage that goes toward body fat burn.  (I honestly don't pay attention to that number much).  And the bottom number is the length of time I worked out.

I found a fun and challenging arm workout on Pinterest and it is amazing.  It's working, so that is double amazing.  Each day I put on my Polar FT40 heart rate monitor and get down to the basement.  I try to do about 20-45 minutes of cardio, sometimes less.   I always plank and do the arm workout.  I started the arm workout as an experiment and I'm glad I did.  I'm planning to go pin a few more workouts and experiment with them too.  I usually throw in an ab workout or squats and lunges too.

I realized I don't need a gym or an expensive workout plan.  I don't need to spend money on videos, bu they can be fun.  I just need to stick to having fun and that proves to me that I can do whatever I want with work and dedication.  I'm hoping that adding more protein to my diet will also help with my fitness habit!

I love when the kids come down to the basement with me and play around.  They love it and I love being a good example for them, but I think I'd workout anyway because I like it!   Sometimes I miss working out in a gym setting.  I miss the social aspect of it all, but knowing I can do workouts at home and still see results, and that is very rewarding to me!

For me it's about the push ups.  Ahhhh those push ups!
