- Charlie Brooker was a British television writer and producer who was best known for creating the internationally renowned science-fiction anthology series "Black Mirror" (Channel 4/Netflix, 2011- ). He began writing and drawing comics when he was a young boy, and by the late 1980s was working as a cartoonist for the British comic book magazine Oink!. When it came time to enter college, Brooker enrolled in the University of Westminster, where he took classes in Media Studies. He completed most of his studies at the University, but dropped out before he could graduate so that he could take a job as a video game reviewer at PC Zone. - Peter Sallis was a British actor who was primarily known for his role on the long-running TV series "Last of the Summer Wine" (BBC, 1973-2010), as well as being the voice of Wallace in the "Wallace and Gromit" films. Born in the London suburb of Twickenham, Sallis had a relatively normal English childhood. He never intended on becoming an actor, and just prior to the outbreak of World War II in the late 30s, he was living a comfortable life working in a British bank. That all changed however when England entered the war. Sallis initially enlisted in the Royal Air Force but was deemed unfit to serve due to a birth defect. Instead, he worked as a mechanic for the Air Force during the war. After the war ended, Sallis embarked on a career as a stage actor. He began appearing in plays in the late 40s, and by the 50s and 60s was a regular presence on the London stage. It was also during this time that Sallis began turning his attention to screen acting. Throughout the 1950s Sallis appeared in British films and on television in mostly small parts, but by the mid-1960s the roles were becoming more substantial. In 1967 he nabbed a recurring role on the British sci-fi series "Doctor Who" (BBC, 1963- ), playing a scientist named Penley on six episodes of the series. Then in 1973 he nabbed his breakout part on the British sitcom "Last of the Summer Wine." Sallis played Clegg on the series, which went on to run for an astounding 31 seasons and 295 episodes, with Sallis being the only actor to appear in every single episode. Throughout the 70s and 80s Sallis would additionally appear in various other British TV programs, all while appearing in "Last of the Summer Wine." But in 1989 his luck would change once again when he was cast as the voice of Wallace in the animated short film "A Grand Day Out" (1989). The short film was the first "Wallace and Gromit" movie and was nominated for an Academy Award. Several more "Wallace and Gromit" films would follow over the course of the next several years, including the Oscar-winning 2005 feature "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit." Sallis would go on to voice Wallace in every one of the films released during his lifetime. When "Last of the Summer Wine" ran its final episode in 2010, Sallis was retired from acting, as he was already in his late 80s. After an amazingly prolific acting career that spanned several decades and dozens of roles, Peter Sallis passed away on June 2, 2017 in London. He was 96.

He was known for roles in British comedy television series such as Porridge, The Two Ronnies, and Open All Hours. Barker began acting in repertory theatre and decided he was best suited to comic roles. He had his first success at the Oxford Playhouse and in roles in the West End including Tom Stoppard's The Real Inspector Hound. During this period, he was in the cast of BBC radio and television comedies such as The Navy Lark. He got his television break with the satirical sketch series The Frost Report in 1966, where he met future collaborator, Ronnie Corbett. He joined David Frost's production company and starred in ITV shows including a short film. After rejoining the BBC, Barker found fame with the sketch show The Two Ronnies (1971–1987), with Ronnie Corbett. He starred in the sitcoms Porridge, its sequel Going Straight and Open All Hours. He wrote comedy under his own name, though for much of his written material after 1968 he adopted pseudonyms (including "Gerald Wiley") to avoid pre-judgments of his writing talent. He won a BAFTA for best light entertainment performance four times, among other awards, and received an OBE in 1978. Later television sitcoms such as The Magnificent Evans and Clarence were less successful and he retired in December 1987. The following year, he opened an antiques shop with his wife, Joy. After 1999, he appeared in smaller, non-comic roles in films. He died of heart failure on 3 October 2005, aged 76.

- Kenny Everett (25 December 1944 – 4 April 1995) was a British comedian and radio disc jockey known for his irreverent, offbeat comedic style and easy-going personality. After spells on pirate radio and Radio Luxembourg in the mid 1960s, he was one of the first DJs to join BBC radio's newly-created Radio 1 in 1967. It was here he developed his trademark voices and surreal characters which he later adapted for TV. Everett was dismissed from the BBC in 1970 after making remarks about a government minister’s wife. He returned to commercial radio when it became licensed in the UK and joined Capital Radio. Starting in the late 1970s, he transitioned to television where he made numerous comedy series on ITV and BBC often appearing with Cleo Rocos, whose glamorous and curvaceous figure was often used to comic effect. Everett was a politically right-of-centre media star who openly supported the British Conservative Party and made publicity appearances at conferences and rallies. However, as a gay man, he faced criticism for supporting the UK Conservative government after it had enacted Section 28, a clause of the Local Government Act which allowed councils to opt-out of 'promoting' homosexual issues. Everett was a highly versatile performer, able to write his own scripts, compose jingles and operate advanced recording and mixing equipment. His personality also made him a regular guest on chat shows and panel programmes like Blankety Blank. He was diagnosed with HIV in 1989 and died in 1995.

- Bob Monkhouse was a British comedian, actor, and celebrity, arguably best remembered as the host of a number of popular game shows like "Celebrity Squares," "Family Fortunes," and "The Golden Shot." His career kick-started in post-World War II Britain working in radio with Denis Goodwin on a show called "Calling All Forces." It was during this time that Monkhouse wrote material for visiting comedians, including his hero Bob Hope. Although his passion was for stand-up comedy and nightclub performances, in the 1950s he hosted a number of variety shows for television, such as "Val Parnell's Sunday Night at the Library Palladium" and the English version of game show "What's My Line?, to name just a few. One of his major successes was hosting "The Golden Shot" game show in the late 1960s, although scandal rocked the program and Monkhouse in 1972 when he was accused of having taken a bribe, resulting in his termination. Another scandal hit him in the late 1970s when he was accused of importing a film illegally into the country for his private movie collection. In 1983, he hosted his own talk show, "The Bob Monkhouse Show," which aired for three years. As the alternative comedy boom hit big in the 1980s, older comedians were routinely shoved aside for being old fashioned, but Monkhouse was still respected by many of the edgier comics. Even though his best years as a performer were long behind him, Monkhouse was still working just weeks before his death in 2003.

- Comedian Bob Mortimer found major success in the early 1990s with his creative partner Vic Reeves starring in "Vic Reeves Big Night Out," a finger in the eye to the corny variety show. Mortimer wrote extensively for the program and played many characters on it, including The Man with the Stick and Judge Nutmeg. The show, which lasted two seasons, is still beloved by fans for its surreal, silly humor. Afterwards, Mortimer re-teamed with Reeves in 1992, writing and starring in the pilot for a proposed sitcom entitled "The Weekenders," about two friends who are harassed by aliens from outer space. Due to contractual problems, a full series was never picked up and the duo moved to the BBC to work on "The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer." That show was similar in tone and format to their previous hit, "Vic Reeves Big Night Out," although Mortimer's on-screen role was more pronounced in this new series. 1993 saw the release of the panel game show parody "Shooting Stars," created and hosted by Mortimer and Reeves, and featuring a number of comedy stars, such as Jonathan Ross, novelist Will Self, and Matt Lucas. The show originally ended in 1997, but was brought back in 2004 and is their most popular show. Mortimer and Reeves created another sketch comedy show in 1999, "Bang Bang, It's Reeves and Mortimer," although it was too bizarre for many new fans. Mortimer also starred with Reeves in the supernatural comedy "Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)."
