  • 10cc
Classic rock, Pop music, Rock music
10cc are an English rock band founded in Stockport, England, who achieved their greatest commercial success in the 1970s. The band initially consisted of four musicians – Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, and Lol Creme – who had written and recorded together for some three years, before assuming the name "10cc" in 1972. 10cc featured two songwriting teams, one "commercial" and one "artistic". Stewart and Gouldman were predominantly pop songwriters, who created most of the band's accessible songs. By way of contrast, Godley and Creme were the predominantly experimental half of 10cc, featuring an "art school" sensibility and cinematically-inspired writing.Every member of 10cc was a multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer and producer, and the writing teams frequently switched partners, so that Godley/Gouldman or Creme/Stewart compositions were not uncommon (although compositions credited to Creme/Gouldman and Godley/Stewart are rare, only found on 1974's Sheet Music). After Godley and Creme left the band in 1976, Gouldman and Stewart were the main creative forces behind 10cc. Stewart left the band after 1995, and Gouldman continues to lead a touring version of 10cc. Most of the band's albums were recorded at their own Strawberry Studios (North) in Stockport and Strawberry Studios (South) in Dorking, with most of those engineered by Stewart. 10cc was co-managed by Ric Dixon and Harvey Lisberg at Kennedy Street, who had represented the individual members of the band since the mid-1960s.

  • ABBA
    Synthpop, Disco, Pop music
ABBA are a Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in 1972 by Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The group's name is an acronym of the first letters of their first names. They became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of popular music, topping the charts worldwide from 1974 to 1982. ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest 1974 at The Dome in Brighton, UK, giving Sweden its first triumph in the contest. They are the most successful group to have taken part in the competition. During the band's active years, it was composed of two married couples: Fältskog and Ulvaeus, and Lyngstad and Andersson. With the increase of their popularity, their personal lives suffered which eventually resulted in the collapse of both marriages. The relationship changes were reflected in the group's music, with latter compositions featuring darker and more introspective lyrics. After ABBA disbanded in January 1983, Andersson and Ulvaeus achieved success writing music for the stage, while Lyngstad and Fältskog pursued solo careers with mixed success. ABBA's music declined in popularity until the purchase of ABBA's catalogue and record company Polar by Polygram in 1989 enabled the groundwork to be laid for an international re-issue of all their original material and a new Greatest Hits (ABBA Gold) collection in September 1992, which became a worldwide bestseller. Several films, notably Muriel's Wedding (1994) and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), further revived interest in the group and spawned several tribute bands. In 1999, ABBA's music was adapted into the successful musical Mamma Mia! that toured worldwide. A film of the same name, released in 2008, became the highest-grossing film in the United Kingdom that year. A sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, was released in 2018. On 27 April 2018, it was announced that the band had recorded two new songs after 35 years of being inactive, named "I Still Have Faith in You" and "Don’t Shut Me Down". On 18 September 2018, in an interview, Andersson said that they are still working on the songs, with possibly a third one written; they are set to be released in 2019.Estimates of ABBA's total record sales are over 380 million, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. ABBA are the first group from a non-English-speaking country to achieve consistent success in the charts of English-speaking countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States. They have a joint record eight consecutive number-one albums in the UK. The group also enjoyed significant success in Latin America, and recorded a collection of their hit songs in Spanish. ABBA were honoured at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005, when their hit "Waterloo" was chosen as the best song in the competition's history. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2015, their song "Dancing Queen" was inducted into the Recording Academy's Grammy Hall of Fame.

Hits like "Dancing Queen," "Mamma Mia," and "Waterloo" showcased Fältskog's vocal prowess and songwriting skills, earning her widespread recognition and admiration. Winehouse attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School and later the BRIT School, where she honed her talent and laid the groundwork for her future career. Winehouse's debut album, Frank, released in 2003, immediately established her as a rising star in the UK music scene. B.B. King, born as Riley B. King on September 16, 1925, in Itta Bena, Mississippi, was an iconic American blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. His journey from a humble cotton picker and tractor driver to one of the most influential blues musicians is a testament to his sheer talent and passion for music. He was known for his unique style that combined traditional blues with jazz, pop, and other forms of music. King's career took off in earnest in 1949 when he began performing on Sonny Boy Williamson's radio program in West Memphis. This exposure led to steady engagements at the Sixteenth Avenue Grill in West Memphis, and later to a ten-minute spot on black-staffed and managed Memphis radio station WDIA. "King's Spot," became so popular, it was expanded and renamed the "Sepia Swing Club." However, it was his 1956 hit "Three O'Clock Blues" that catapulted him to national fame. Over the next several decades, he produced numerous hit records, including "Rock Me Baby," "Sweet Little Angel," and "The Thrill Is Gone," which won him his first Grammy Award in 1970. Beyond his musical prowess, King was also known for his tireless work ethic, often performing over 300 concerts a year. Despite his intense schedule, he always found time to experiment with his music and push the boundaries of blues. His profound influence on music was recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where he was inducted in 1987. B.B. King's legacy endures through his timeless music, his impact on countless musicians who followed in his footsteps, and his unwavering dedication to the blues.

  • Babasónicos

    Babasónicos

Rock music, Rap metal, Pop rock
Babasónicos is an Argentine rock band, formed in the early 1990s along with others such as Peligrosos Gorriones and Los Brujos. After emerging in the wave of Argentine New Rock bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s, Babasonicos became one of the banner groups of the "sonic" underground rock movement in Argentina in the late 1990s. The band name refers partly to Sai Baba, the Indian guru, and partly to The Jetsons, whose Spanish version is called Los Supersónicos. The lead singer Adrián "Dárgelos" Rodríguez and the keyboardist Diego "Uma-T" Tuñón initially decided to create a new wave style, which wouldn't follow the established Argentine music. The other official band members are: Diego "Uma" Rodríguez (guitarist and lead singer), Diego "Panza" Castellano (drummer), Mariano "Roger" Domínguez (guitarist), and recently deceased Gabriel "Gabo" Manelli (bassist). For their second album, Trance Zomba (1994), they incorporated a guest DJ, "DJ Peggyn" who would eventually remain as a band member until after releasing Miami (1999). This same year the band saw the departure of their longtime manager Cosme. In 1999, they collaborated with Ian Brown on a song that bears their name on his album Golden Greats. Although the band has never been afraid to experiment with various diverse styles throughout their career, since they recorded Jessico (2001) their songs have become simpler and more in tune with current trends in music. Some believe this to be a contradiction with their original tenets, and that Babasonicos has turned into a mainstream marketable band. Their following records, Infame (2003), Anoche (2005), Mucho (2008), and "A Propósito" (2011) are proof that they have reached a broader audience. Babasonicos also composed the soundtrack for Vera Fogwill's movie Las Mantenidas Sin Sueños (Kept and Dreamless), which was released in 2007. The album was composed in 2003. On January 12, 2008, the band posted an entry on their official site in which they informed that their longtime bassist, Gabriel Manelli had died as a result of Hodgkin's disease, which he had been suffering since the tour supporting the album Infame. Their album Mucho, was released in 2008, and was a more straightforward rock album than their predecessors. Phil Brown (Bob Marley, Robert Palmer, Talk Talk, Roxy Music) worked with Babasonicos just like he did in their previous album, Anoche. It is unknown who will be their new bassist, but in the meantime, their long-time friend Carca is playing with them. They released their album "A Propósito", in 2011. They release their latest album "Discutible", in 2018.

    Bajofondo Tango Club

    Nuevo tango, Tango
Bajofondo is a Río de la Plata-based music band consisting of eight musicians from Argentina and Uruguay. The band, which refers to itself as a "collective of composers, singers and artists", was formerly called "Bajofondo Tango Club", but shortened the name to "Bajofondo" after they felt their style had broadened, as was announced on their live concert in Berlin in April 2008. Often compared to Gotan Project, their earlier music had blended acoustic tango and electronic music, part of an evolving tango genre which is known as Electrotango, which brought tango back into the mainstream. In addition to the aforementioned mixture of tango and electronica, the band is an innovative form of drum and bass, house music, chill out and trip-hop. Their first record, Bajofondo Tango Club, was launched in 2003 with great success, with a second lone project from pianist/DJ/composer Luciano Supervielle greeted warmly by reviewers in late 2005. More recent music from their third album, Mar Dulce, is a fusion of Latin Alternative with contemporary music forms along the Río de la Plata at the border of Argentina and Uruguay. Their most recent album, Presente, was released in 2013.
