Stephen King is an American author celebrated for his uncanny ability to transform ordinary circumstances into terrifying narratives. Born on September 21, 1947, in Portland, Maine, King's early life was marked by hardship, including the abandonment by his father when he was only two years old. An avid reader from a young age, King began writing stories as a child, finding solace in the fantastical worlds he created. His works, including renowned titles such as The Shining, It, and The Dark Tower series, have sold more than 350 million copies worldwide, solidifying his reputation as one of the greatest storytellers of his generation. Several of his books have been turned into iconic films, including The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Despite his association with horror, King's ability to explore the complexities of human nature transcends genre, earning him a diverse fanbase and critical acclaim.
