Secret Agent Birthday Party - Free Printables

We were headed into another super hero birthday party. . .  Don't get me wrong, I don't mind super hero birthday parties, but after several of them, the creative juices weren't flowing anymore. :0) Thankfully, we ran across something with a secret agent on it.  My son Carter was enthralled.  Yay!! Secret agent it was!!

Keeping with the theme I created "Top Secret" file invitations.  Their "mission" was glued inside.  This parties mission: to not allow a little boy to celebrate his birthday alone.  (Keep scrolling to download the invitations, a banner, name-tags, and much more).

Secret Agent Badges were waiting for all of the kids as soon as they came in. They carefully put their finger prints on the badges and came up with interesting Agent Code Names.  Basketball champ, Agent black, and Dolphin girl were just a few of them.

When the kids were done making their badges we began our "scavenger hunt".  Basically the hunt was the group following clues to find Carter's three main birthday presents.

The game began by taking turns crawling cautiously through the laser beams (yed yarn).  If they made it through safely they were to pick a black balloon and pop it to find a clue.  Each clue was a riddle that led to the location of the next clue.  As soon as they figured out where they were headed, they all had to hold on to a security rope and follow the clues until they found the present.  I'm not sure who had the most fun, the kids, or the adults watching them as they were trying to decode all the clues.

We had simple treats for this party.  There were cupcakes with secret agent toppers...

... little baby bombs...

... and secret agent water bottles.

I think this Birthday Party was a mission accomplished!!

Mario Birthday Party with Free Printables!

"It's-a-Mario!"  My son Tyler had a great Mario birthday party!

Next to drawing the Mario head, my biggest challenge was coming up with a way to decorate my son's choice of a jello cake in the Mario theme.  I settled on coloring most of the whipped topping blue and left a little white to make the clouds.  Easy fix.  I used a old original Betty Crocker recipe to make the cake---it was delicious:

Silver White Cake

2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening ( I used stick butter)
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 egg whites

Mix dry ingredients together.  Then gently stir in milk, vanilla and egg whites.  Pour into greased pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

Makes one 9x 13 or two round 8 or 9 1/2"

Then in order to make it a jello cake... First I let the cake cool.  Then I poked holes all over the top of the cake.  I followed the package directions to make a strawberry jello, and poured it on the top of the cake, then let it set in the fridge for about 3 hours.  Finally I topped it with the whipped topping about 1 hour before serving.

Mario star sugar cookies were a hit!  I loved the recipe I found here.

Tyler has always been my child to make thousands of "funny" faces when we try to take his picture.  No "normal" smiles for this kid. :0)

Happy Birthday Tyler!!!!

Mario Birthday Plan

The end of September is the next birthday around here.  My son who has had 6 puppy birthdays, is branching out a little. To his credit, last year was a basketball birthday.  This year we are going with MARIO!! "Mama Mia, Mia Mama!"

UPDATE:  Tyler loved his Mario party.  It turns out that I made and used my own Mario printable.  You may find them here:  Mario Printables.

Here are the inspirations:

Great photos from Catch My Party.  Star cookies are a simple, easy way to incorporate some design.

I love the way Walyou.com used the yellow paper plates to create the coins.

Craft Interrupted has many neat ideas that she shares from a Mario party she did.  I love the hats and the chocolate mustaches!

This picture from Celebrations at Home gives all kinds of inspiration!

The star garland/banner Take the side street displayed over the mirror is a great idea.

Hmmmmm........ now, to make my own game plan............. (and incorporate a jello cake).

Brittany's Reese's Birthday!!

It took us a little while to figure out Brittany's birthday this year.  We finally settled on two of her loves: Reese's peanut butter cups and Ice cream- specifically cookie dough.

You can see our plan of action here.

The Reese's Ice cream bar was a hit!  Looking at this picture, half of the items for the bar were still in the fridge and freezer at this point.  Chocolate syrup, caramel, homemade cookie dough, homemade strawberry freezer jam, and of course the ice cream.

This was the first time I had tried to make Party Pom Poms.  They were quite fun, and not very difficult to make.  I have more about them at the end of the post.

Brittany's birthday supper order was Walking Tacos.   The kids had a lot of fun making them, and some of them were eating their supper for quite a while, seeing as their eyes were a little bigger than their stomach!  :0)

No party is complete without goofy brothers!!

We are so thankful to the Lord for our sweet daughter.  We are thankful that she has asked Jesus to forgive her of all of her sins, and is daily growing and seeking to please Him.  She is a joy to have as part of our family.  Happy Birthday Britt!!

Friends & Gifts!

Part of Brittany's present from us was redecorating her room.  More details on that coming soon.......

In case you are wondering how to make these cool party pom poms here is one of the best sites I found.

The only thing that was a little confusing in the instructions from Martha Stewarts post, was towards the end when they said "fluff the layers".  I wasn't sure how I was supposed to "fluff" them.  I did eventually figure out that you separate the individual layers on each side of the floral wire.  Pull them towards the center.  They really are quite resilient so you can pull them gently, but firmly.  Then do the same pulling on the other side. Your goal is to make it into a ball shape.  Keep pulling until it all fills in and resembles a poof.

All these further explanations may be redundant for most of you, but I thought I'd explain it more anyways, since I wished the "fluff" instructions had been a little more thorough.  :0)

Brittany's Reese's Ice Cream Birthday Collage

My little girl is turning 11 in two weeks (I don't know whether to be happy or sad!).  It took us a while to figure out what kind of birthday she wanted this year...... but we finally decided on Reese's Peanut Butter Cup/ Ice cream birthday.  Um, um!

Here is the collage plan we put together:

So, the planning begins............

Scrabble Birthday Party!

My mother-in-law, or Nana, as we usually call her, loves to play scrabble.  We were finally going to be with her on her birthday, so we decided to throw together a little party.

What could be better than celebrating with a low-calorie Jello cake!

In order to add a little color to the scrabble theme, I decided to add strawberries, and therefore the beautiful, rich, red color.

Scrabble Happy Birthday Banner.  I think I scored a lot of points with this word combination!  The best score, however, was Nana's new high record, 470 points, set on her birthday.  Way to go Nana!!

In keeping with the theme, here was her present:

Scrabble themed toss pillows.  :0)

Trust you had a very happy Birthday Nana!  We love you!
