To replace railbuses, railcars of class 627 and 628.0/928.0 (628 is
a power unit, and 928 a driving trailer.) were built from 1974. And to
improve local traffic, DB planed new diesel railcar units. From 1986, railcars
of class 628.2/928.2 strated being built and in 1987 they entered in service.
From 1992 class 628.4/928.4 started being produced.
Class 628.2/928.2 was based on class 628.0/928.0, but many improvements
were made. The length of class 628.2/928.2 is 45,400mm, weight 39.5t(628.2)
+ 27.4t(928.2), power output 410kW, maxium speed 120km/h and the wheel
arrangement 2`B`(628.2)-2`2`(928.2). They were mainly produced by DUEWAG,
Waggon-Union, AEG and so on.
Class 628.4/928.4 is much common to class 628.2/928.2, but its length is
46,400mm, weight 42.0t(628.4) + 27.9t(928.4) and power output 485kW.
At first the livery of class 628.2-4/928.2-4 is green/white, but recently
some units are repainted to red. They are now operated for all types of
local passenger trains in whole Germany. |
