Photo Caption: "Pennsylvania-Reading sand and gravel train of 65 cars leaves Millville, N.J., behind engines of both roads." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1233, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built as an H-8B in Juniata during July of 1909, rebuilt as an H-9S in February of 1917, and retired in July of 1948.

Description:  Coal Power. Here is an undated photo by Granville Thomas that was taken near Millville, New Jersey. It was published originally in the March 1945 issue of "Model Railroader" magazine, page number not recorded. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1233, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built as an H-8B in Juniata during 1909, rebuilt as an H-9S in February of 1917, and retired in July of 1948. It is heading a Pennsylvania-Reading sand and gravel train of 65 cars.

CP 4-4-4 #2913 - Canadian Pacific
Title:  CP 4-4-4 #2913 - Canadian Pacific
Description:  This is a beautiful example of Canadian Pacific 4-4-4 Jubilee type steam locomotive built by the Canadian Locomotive Works in December of 1937. The white walled wheels and streamlined body casing gives it a modern look. The loco served the CP for twenty years before being disposed in March of 1957. Specs - Serial #1927, F-1a class, 75" drivers, impressive 300 psi boiler pressure, 16.5x28" cylinders, engine weight of 240,000 lb, tractive effort of 25,918 lb. No exact day in January of 1939 was given for this photo and no photographer was listed.

Description:  According to the info on the back of the photo, this Canadian Pacific 4-4-4 #2913 was caught standing near the coaling tower in Elkhorn, Montana. Built by the Canadian Locomotive Company in December of 1937, it lasted until March of 1957.
